Every word in here is carefully chosen and accurate
What ICE is doing is terrorizing an entire community to rid it of anyone who is not white. They function like a modern day slave patrol, run by the federal government.

Victor Manuel Diaz was kidnapped from Minneapolis. He was my neighbor and he died in an American concentration camp. He was not "illegal," he was a human being made in the image of the divine. May his memory be a blessing, and may the rest of us fight like hell until we stop this brutality.
This is the sixth death in ICE custody in 18 days. This isn’t enforcement, it’s a system that cages people, outsources care, and shrugs when they die. Abolish ICE.

I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one.

It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
The Origins of the Word "Moron" Are Actually REALLY Sinister
It's much more than just a casual insult.

This makes me ill. Lewiston was my father's hometown, and my grandfather was a New England francophone, descendent of the Quebecois diaspora, born on the Maine/Canada border. African immigrant in Lewiston have been vital to the revitalization of French there. And this is how they are repaid.
Make America White Again is very clearly the slogan, the movement, and philosophy at work here and the press is still shy about asking about it

“a pair of asylum-seekers from Angola who handed over the keys to their apartment Wednesday and said they planned to head for the Canadian border.”
Immigrants prepare for their arrests and leave Lewiston ahead of ICE action
One property manager showed a reporter a form being passed around so undocumented parents could designate temporary guardians for their children in the event of their arrest.

There is a clear undercurrent of violence against queer women from ICE.

If a woman isn't interested in them, she's a 'fucking bitch' who becomes disposable at best and in need of violent 'correction' at worst.

It's immigrants on the surface, and queer people incidentally today. Tomorrow it's you.
“When I was in the cell, I overheard a woman asking to call her girlfriend, and I started crying because I just thought of Renee, and I thought of my girlfriend and this girl. And I was like, ‘Why are so many lesbians being fucked up by ICE right now?’”

YES.

Also when you realize this you will realize how many non-autistic people view empathy as a weakness and how toxic that is to community and society.
No, autistics do not “lack empathy”: “Where researchers had assumed impairment, they found autistic people applying moral principles more consistently—even to strangers, even when costly.” By Ludmila Pradlova.

Thinking about this now in the context of the various kinds of disinformation in the U.S. at the moment. The overall message of the discussion (assuming I’m summarizing it correctly) is that what we believe is less about rationally weighing evidence and more about how we identify and who we trust.
