CDC has finally adopted the recommendations its vaccine panel made Sept. 19. This should increase access to Covid vaccines somewhat — CVS and Walgreens had said once the recs were official, they'd offer the shots w/o Rx nationwide, and Vaccines for Children program also needed the official approval

Some context for thinking about crime:

Since the start of 2023, the murder rate in traditionally Republican states has been about 50% higher than in other states, even when you include D.C.

(Figures are from CDC's cause-of-death reporting.)

Yeah, at this point you can spare us your "Don't worry, the US military would never obey orders to invade an ally". If they'll serve as Trump's police against their fellow citizens, they'll have no problem attacking Canada if he tells them to.

If the Supreme Court rules for the Trump administration in this case, biomedical research is finished in this country.
The Supreme Court is reviewing a vitally important NIH case on its shadow docket.

It is likely that the Court will back Trump, and say his (illegal) grant terminations are ok.

We must speak up now.

Tell the Supreme Court: No Stay. Hands off NIH
The Supreme Court is poised to allow Trump to illegally terminate NIH grants. Let's speak out. There is not much time.

This is, to me, the defining dyamic of everything the last six months. Any game theory notion of deterrence or the shoe being on the other foot ever is entirely gone. Either 1) They don't think they'll ever lose power again or 2) they're confident Democrats won't ever do the same things back to them
Budget agreements won’t matter, funding obligations won’t matter, expended funds on the basis of promised reimbursement won’t matter.

You really don’t get the impression the GOP is thinking through what this means for the second they’re not in control.
“We don’t have an appropriations process. It’s broken. It’s been broken for a while,” said Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., who sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

He predicted that there will be CRs and rescission packages for the next four years.
