2074 years ago, on the 7th of January 49 BCE, the Roman Senate threatened to declare Caesar a public enemy if he failed to disband his army, causing the tribunes who supported him to flee to Ravenna. Caesar refused to comply and marched on Rome, crossing the Rubicon, days later. #otd #history 🗃️

This I’m afraid of typical America. They go in rising hell and have no plan for what comes after.
They’ve done this time again
BRENNAN: To be clear, there is no plan for US occupation of this country of nearly 30 million people?

MARCO RUBIO: The president always retains optionality on anything and on all of these matters

So far in 1066:

• Edward the Confessor has died.
• Harold Godwineson has been named king instead of Edgar Ætheling.
• Edward has been buried.
• Harold has been crowned.

It's still only 6 January.

The government is legislating a 6-month wait before you can do your driving test. Which is ridiculous because the dysfunction of the DVSA site means learners have to wait longer than that (and pay extra £££ to scalpers) to book already. Maybe we should just solve the problems instead?

Shit, all the roads are pavements are covered in black ice. Was just driving down and the car started slipping for a good 20 metre, couldn’t do anything, had to just turn into the curb and luckily the verge stopped me. Car in front went into a tree. Have parked up and walked home.

Roborock’s latest vacuum is reaching new heights, literally. The Saros Rover is equipped with legs that help it climb stairs so it can clean multiple floors in your home. It can also clean the stairs as it goes, roll down slopes, and jump over (small) obstacles.

JEFF LANDRY: I disagree. When has the United States engaged in imperialism? Never. Europe has engaged in imperialism. The reason the Danish have Greenland is because of imperialism.

We know what happens when a US President ignores international law. My friend Charles Kennedy understood what was at stake in 2003 when he stood against the Iraq war.

Unlike the Labour government, we will not look the other way.

Shocking update!!
I called HMRC, the message said 30 minute wait and then put me straight through. Polite person could not help, but directly transferred me to another polite person who could immediately see and explain the problem. All sorted in less than 10 minutes. All credit to HMRC 🙌

I mean they do lose when their polls go down. Belief and nerve aren't much use in winning elections if no one votes for you.
Keir Starmer has this morning urged Cabinet to keep its nerve amid grim opinion polling (today’s YouGov put Labour in third place behind Reform & Tories)

“Governments do not lose because polls go down. They lose when they lose belief or nerve. We will do neither,” he said
