A radio programme like the Shipping Forecast but it’s called Bin Day and it just reads out every single council in the country’s bin schedule

I’ve seen a few extraordinary set designs; U2 at the Sphere, McCartney’s channeling of intense collective memory, all sorts of heavy metal tomfoolery. Rammstein on fire on the stage of the O2.
This is better than all of those

Spoke to someone tonight who was at his 200th Half Man Half Biscuit gig. I suggested it must be something of a record, at which he nodded to the guy next to him, who coughed “221…”

Anybody who has spent any time as an editor will be familiar with The Editors' Curse. That's the thing where any typo, no matter how fleeting, leaps out and demands attention. Tonight I'm watching an old episode of Andromeda, and this is on the opening credits. I'm embarrassed for Eric.

It’s the only American sport I watch. Americans can ruin anything with money and hyperbole, but despite that, baseball just about retains the occasional sighting of energetic innocence and ingenuity. It’s still about the talented ‘everyman’ metaphorically and literally playing the angles.

The World Series did make me like the USA a bit more, there was quite a lot of the energy that Walt Whitman describes in his line about it being "America's game; it has the snap, go, fling of the American atmosphere."
