British TV is obsessed with US comedy. Strange.
BLOG UPDATE! I've gone and made a full rundown of the fifty TV programmes that have been broadcast most frequently throughout 2025. With the bonus added prize of revealing which FOUR television programmes appeared on all four BBC channels in 2025. brokentv.uk/2025/12/28/t...

The most streamed 80s songs. Any theories as to why Madonna has dropped so sharply off the cultural radar? (Cyndi Lauper, by contrast, has two entries)

Made it! 🎉🥳 – one hundred newly released films watched in a calendar year for the first time! Nine got a five-star rating. Might try to do this every year now.

Always one of the funniest things about Christmas. Follow Rhodri and the #DuvetKnowItsChristmas tag on Christmas Eve night for photos of hilarious holiday sleeping arrangements and even better captions. 🍿
Tomorrow evening it’ll be my annual duty to vaguely shepherd the activity on the #duvetknowitschristmas hashtag and urge people to give small sums to charity. 7.30pm? Something like that?

A little list of some of my favourite words for the season. Some beautiful, others potentially necessary. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

No, Guardian, no. You can argue that using “gift” as a verb is becoming more common usage, but we’re still not in Kansas and it just makes you look tragic.

Australia’s ban on social media use for under-16s comes into force today. It can only be a good thing. Of course it’s easy to circumvent, but it’s about not getting the next generation addicted to it in the first place. If most kids aren’t on it, there’s no critical mass and the rest won’t bother.

I get that it’s quite satisfying to tell other people what music you’ve been listening to, but why wait for Spotify to tell you to do so?

Most unfortunate consequence of being 10 ½ hrs ahead of most people on my timeline? I’ve just failed #Mariahgeddon before you’ve even got up. Rundle Mall, Adelaide, 16:21, 1/12/25. 😡

Well done Scotland.

The Tartan Army vs ICE on the streets of World Cup America next summer is going to be box office.

American blowhards used to beating up kids are about to face having the piss mercilessly taken out of them by men in skirts. Lovely stuff.

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

Thank goodness. Every election, it's been a complete toss-up whether the P&CC that uninterested electors voted in (solely on the basis of rosette colour) was someone who had any interest or ability in the role or – more likely – some time-serving party clown who could finally be given a Proper Job.
BREAKING Home Office is about to announce that police and crime commissioners are to be scrapped..
Established in 2012 by Theresa May, Labour has never been a fan of the PCC system…they’ll be replaced in 2028 by policing mayors & local policing boards ..
