a lot of people don't realize that Christmas carols and traditions are actually folk memories of suppressed pre-Christian events, namely the end of the Third Age and the Fall of Sauron.

It’s not funny when the 1st and 5th place parties are only 10% apart, FPTP systems only do this when they’re very distressed

People have rightly commented on how the current fragmentation of voting behaviour makes FPTP incredibly random or unrepresentative. Less attention has gone to its effects on MMP systems with a large FPTP element without overhang correction, such as the one in Scotland…

At the time: FTL (first game I got on steam)

Most of the time between then and now: CK2

Ever since Prince Philip died: Eurotruck Simulator 2
Quote this with what you would have said your game of the year was at the end of 2012, if you had one, and what you would say your favourite game of 2012 is now, if it differs

Outright pro-Russians are a very small cohort of the general obtruseness brigade in European Ukraine policy. The real issue is defence antivaxxers: people who insist that there is no real problem that defence spending is the answer to, eleven years into some real obvious evidence that there is

This is something that’s been bugging me about the modern British economy/people’s views more generally. There’s a perception that the better something is/the more important something is the worse it is to make a profit off it, whereas in a good economy doing good things should be profitable
'Conservative commentator' Mercy Muroki: "If you're going into a career in medicine, you shouldn't be doing it for the money... you should be doing it out of love of being a doctor."

It took my a while to realise this wasn’t a ‘The Balkan countries can’t play each other rule’ and I assumed that that there was some kind of political reason to why we couldn’t play Argentina, Spain and France
A new FIFA World Cup draw rule is that England can not meet Argentina, Spain or France before the semi-final if the top four seeds each top their groups.

People are dunking on this post, but it’s correct, a United Angevin Empire and the Ottoman empires are the only real empires, all others are figments of your imagination (apart from the Holy Roman Empire, which historians haven’t been able to work out if it was real or not)

The problem with choosing Stella Creasy is that overcoming a 30% majority will require a slightly dirty by-election campaign, and you would probably want a less sympathetic target for that (or failing that a less high profile sympathetic target but that still wouldn’t be ideal)

It’s wild that breaking a dumb manifesto pledge you’ve broken in spirit anyway is unthinkable, but carrying out one of the most radical reforms to the justice system in centuries without mentioning it in the manifesto is perfectly fine

Our constitution is fine (if you have a majority for it in parliament you can do it as an excellent principle), the issue is our insane way of handing out a majority

It’s been clear for a while the conservatives party deserves to die, and I’m afraid any not evil centre right person just has to vote for the Lib Dems (which aren’t a centre right party) and hope they deliver electoral reform which will allow for the existence of a not evil centre right party

So now that it’s confirmed that none of the messages on the bullets were pro-trans, maybe we should have a national conversation about how multiple newspapers repeated a lie about us on their front pages hours after doubts had already been cast over it?

It’s almost like being willing to sell ‘hypnotising boobs into being larger’ as a service, and who left the Lib Dems in the stop because you didn’t get selected for Richmond park was indicative of a penalty fundamentally not suited to leading a political party

This does say a lot about how much time our politicians are spending on Twitter, and I don’t think it’s a great sign of where Britain’s elite is.

Starmer did not tweet about the murder of Melissa Hortman (an elected official) and her husband.
I don't think it is callous of me to observe that it is weird to see the PM of the UK, the leader of the Opposition of the UK, and the ex UK PM all putting out solemn and devastated tweets about the death of a podcaster who is only a big name if you're constantly on Twitter
