I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

The professionalism is indisputable, no? An undisciplined and untrained policing agency steeped in this much contempt and disregard of the citizenry can't actually be reformed. Abolish -- before more of us are beaten, killed or detained indefinitely and without legal cause.

Saying there must be trials isn't just an emotive aspiration.
Congress can:
- Create a new court (complying w/ 6A jury vicinage)
- Give it jurisdiction over defined category of crimes
- Also create dedicated prosecutors for the same
- Strip SCOTUS of appellate jurisdiction
It can be done.

In light of recent events I would not be surprised to learn about some secret internal memo that trains them that violating the 1st amendment is legal.
Is it the position of ICE that anyone recording video in public is a domestic terrorist?
ICE agent asked why he's taking pictures of a legal observer's car, replies: "Cuz we have a nice little database and now you're considered a domestic terrorist. So have fun with that."

The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”

To Dems squeamish about the phrase "Abolish ICE" -- it's not the self-defeating rhetoric of Defund or Abolish Police. INS, Customs, Border Patrol are intact to police immigration. ICE did not exist to snatch any random brown people and shoot moms in the head until 2003. We're okay walking it back.

As much as anyone would like to believe this, I just have a hard time envisioning a future where anyone is accountable.

Whether in 2026 or 2028, there will be a reckoning. Even if Trump gave a mass pardon (he would have to use an autopen to pardon 21K agents) there would still be civil action open to the folks who were harmed. 🗽
