REMEMBER: Brandon Johnson could give CDOT and DSS the green light for the #PlowTheSidewalks pilot *this winter* if he wanted to.

He’ll claim he needs an ordinance, but truth is all he did was cut a deal to kill the program with the only alderman who’s worn a MAGA hat to City Council.

Today was a perfect example of why I only watch @allinwithchris.bsky.social on cable news. Great episode. Go Cubs!
@chrislhayes.bsky.social reports from Chicago: "Nothing about this city feels like a war zone—to use this city and others like it as a "training ground" is dangerously deranged."

Is @quigley.house.gov signing on?
Any Democrat not signing on to this will be remembered in the same way as every Democrat who voted for the Iraq War.

It's pretty notable that mainstream, establishment discourse never ever ever considers giving liberal politicians credit for crime reductions. It's almost axiomatic that if crime goes down under a center-left leader it's either unremarked upon, or must be driven by something else.

Defund the police was a bad slogan, which is why it took massive expenditures of political and financial capital along with the deployment of widespread state violence to suppress it, and also why everyone knows it and we're still talking about it five years later

Tonight's meeting shows that Bukele knows he has to keep the people sent to CECOT somewhat safe. He knows that the eyes of the world and senior officials in the United States are watching him.

This is a good sign. I hope his wife's pain can ease up even the slightest bit.

My autistic child is gifted in art and music and is an honors student. She's a smarter and better person than this piece of shit, that's for absolute sure.
1. As part of his dangerous anti-vaxx crusade, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr. spread horrific lies about autistic people by saying they “will never pay taxes. They’ll never hold a job, they’ll never play baseball. They’ll never write a poem. They’ll never go out on a date”

Is this not the Trump admin defying the supreme court that Schumer said we should watch for?
NEW: DOJ finally files its response. They continue to refuse to provide any information about any steps they are taking to bring him back, suggesting they are not taking any. They again offer nobody with personal knowledge and simply cite Bukele's (utterly false) claim that he can't do anything.

I'm calling for an investigation into whether President Trump manipulated the market to benefit his Wall Street donors—all while working people and small businesses paid the price.

Did Trump help insiders cash in on his tariff flip-flopping? It sure looks like corruption.

Yup! And tech CEOs kids have access to a wide arrange of tech including laptops, Alexas, Apple Watches, and a slew of other tech. For many poor kids a phone is the only word processor and communication tools they have. The entire smartphone moral panic is about control, not kids wellbeing
Relatedly, I have a feeling the “tech CEOs don’t let their kids see screens” stuff is not true. I think it’s propaganda to make them seem more elite and drive pro-internet censorship campaigns

this is why shipping migrants to third party countries is inherently a due process violation. it very literally removes them from the realm of legal process entirely.
The Trump administration claims the right to throw a man with legal status into a black hole Central American prison, affording him no due process, to admit afterward it was a mistake, and then to get snide with the judge who tells them to fix it.

It's now a filibuster though it didn't start as one, and it should be backed up with the tactics that we more commonly know as a filibuster but impose no cost on the people who employ them: deny unanimous consent for everything and make the majority walk in quicksand.
By request: some comments on the @booker.senate.gov filibuster.

1) is it a filibuster? YES. Filibustering is defined as parliamentary delay for strategic gain. As of this morning, Booker had not delayed anything, so I would have said "no." But now he has consumed a full day of Senate "work."

The “methods for doing so” are (1) getting two thirds of Congress and three fourths of the states to repeal the 22nd Amendment and (2) declaring himself king.

That’s it.

Stop treating this despotic bullshit as if it’s some worthwhile thought experiment we have to consider as legitimate.
President Trump did not rule out the possibility of seeking a third term in the White House, which is prohibited by the Constitution under the 22nd Amendment, saying in an exclusive interview with NBC News that there were methods for doing so and clarifying that he was “not joking.”
