This is the most real life Bluesky exchange ever.
OBAMA: Sir, I’m not the President of the United States, currently. So, there’s no point in shouting at me. I’m not in charge of foreign policy currently.

That is an ICE agent pepper spraying a restrained victim in the face at close quarters; it's an unquestionable and indefensibly abusive use of excessive force that should (but won't) be criminally prosecuted as assault

“A sharp reversal of longstanding guidance meant to respect constitutional limits on government searches” is such mealy mouthed weasel worded bullshit. It is an open and shut violation of the fourth amendment.

Public safety means stopping violent crime — not weaponizing ICE against our communities.

That’s why I'm proposing a bill that redirects nearly $75 billion from ICE to local law enforcement.

The US refuses to condemn Russia while Ukrainians freeze without water and electricity.

Putin is bombing civilians to break them, and Washington stays silent.

Mike Johnson accuses Norway of “making a political decision & not awarding the Nobel Prize to probably the most deserving individual in history of the prize. There are 8 to 10 wars & conflicts that’ve been resolved by President Trump, & he got snubbed.”

America ceased being a reliable ally the moment the American electorate gave Trump a second chance.

The bomb went off over a year ago. The next few years are about the fallout. My immediate concern is whether the republic endures.
I cannot tell you how absolutely infuriatingly this stuff comes across to Europeans.

When we say America is no longer a reliable ally, it goes considerably deeper than Donald Trump himself. This kind of complacent, condescending shit is a *huge* part of it.

#SCOTUS is likely to do the right thing in the Lisa Cook case.

But it's worth bearing in mind that this idea that the Fed is some bespoke exception to the unitary executive theory is utterly incoherent as a matter of both law and history—and is really just proof that the UET is itself bollocks:
153. Living by the Ipse Dixit
A constitutional principle like the "unitary executive theory" isn't worth all that much if the Supreme Court can conjure new, unprincipled exceptions to it by simply asserting that they exist.

A new working paper makes a compelling case that flows of assets into passive funds really could be distorting share prices and helping inflate a bubble
Is passive investment inflating a stockmarket bubble?
A widely circulated working paper suggests so

I seriously underestimated the chances of the latter happening, which while betraying an absence of imagination on my part, is still better than the number of people who simply refuse to process the reality that the latter actually happened.
I think my biggest break from this site's zeitgeist is I earnestly believe that the United States Government spent 2021-2024 trying to build a case strong enough to survive appeals and see Donald Trump die in prison, or in the alternative force SCOTUS to break the Constitution declare Trump a king.

We did actually indict him though. That is a thing that happened. Twice.
Genuinely shocking to me that this same crew of people have spent a decade trying to convince us that Dems are relentlessly fighting Trump and in fact couldn’t have fought harder, somehow including a period where Dems had total control of the government and their AG wouldn’t even prosecute him

The thing is that voter behavior supports this theory
By this logic, Democrats should spend most of their time talking about Greenland. They won't, of course, because they have a theory of voting behavior that basically reduces Americans to their household expenses.
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!

Q: You recognize the threat of Russia, nevertheless Donald Trump has nominated Putin as a member of the Board of Peace for Gaza. Any reaction?

MIKE JOHNSON: I've not dug into the details of that. It's not within our purview. I'm not the one to answer the details on that.
