So, I had this idea back in September that I would embark on a 12 month project in 2025.

Basically, I am going to be taking inspiration from 12 different female artists and making a final piece inspired by them

And I’ve made a blog to document my process!

This is such a wild instance of leaving money on the table, and yes absolutely screwing over the author. It's also baffling because as much as Harlequin's marketing strategies often fail their authors (next tweet), printing new tie-in editions for locked-in film/TV adaptations is Publishing 101.
NEW: It’s not just readers that suffer due to Harlequin’s mismanagement of the' Heated Rivalry' books. Reid misses out on royalties, & booksellers miss out on commissions—which is especially painful during the holiday season when many small businesses make the bulk of their money.
was ‘heated rivalry’ failed by its publisher?
everyone's devouring the new TV series, so why can't people buy a copy of the book the show is based on?

I see a lot of people bemoaning western games for being increasingly homogeneous, ugly and unstable, but I think that does a disservice for the many horrible gacha games on display that are basically indistinguishable from each other too.

ok so the reason money makes you stupid is that once you have so much of it, you don't have to solve problems anymore. you can pay others to take care of everything and you still get more money but you never have to think. much like a muscle, the brain gets weak when you don't use it.
R U ok with paying 8 to 12 pct more in taxes and possibly losing your standard deduction ?

R U ok with losing access to different curative medications and care because the government can't afford to pay for them, even after taxing all the billionaires 90 pct?

Annual reminder that I support abortion at ANY stage during pregnancy because you have no idea what will happen at any stage and you should be able to get care should something occur.
Thankfully, the Polish doctor who was arrested for providing a medically necessary later abortion has had her criminal investigation dropped. Prosecutors deemed that she did not violate Poland’s strict abortion laws. An anti-choice fanatic who attacked her is facing criminal charges for assault.

So many past artists who created the iconic Disney characters had NO idea the work they created would be regurgitated through Open AI for free

These people were not paid for the extraction of their labor. We need California law to catch up and @governor.ca.gov to stop this AI deal NOW 🛑

It sucks to see so many peers defaulting to exclude anything after 2019 or 2022 on search results. When looking for reference material. There is so much that has come out in that time and that removes so much new work by new skilled artists and photographers.

this is why I never believed the Hollywood journo excuse that lawsuits weren't popping up because it takes a long time to piece them together. They were saying that stuff when Disney was already using GenAI for things like that awful Secret Invasion intro credits. It was obvious why they were quiet.
Disney is investing one billion into OpenAI-- this is exactly why that lobbying effort against AI with these companies (including Adobe, et al) using the copyright angle was never going to work. The technology itself is completely unethical, and these conglomerates are going to use it regardless.

I will say, it's interesting to hear museums like this who claim they simply cannot return stolen artifacts to their countries of origin because the material might not be preserved or accessible there, and yet here they have so little security that people can just walk off with shit.

When the economy hits people with salaries it sends ripples out like pebbles dropped in a pond to those who live client to client, job to job.

This economy has been like dumping a fucking mountain into that pond.
I don’t think people with salaried jobs have any fucking clue what people who offer ~luxury~ services are experiencing

hairdressers, therapists, tattoo artists, piercers, nail technicians, masseuses, bartenders, waitstaff, house cleaners, & yes sex workers are being absolutely ratfucked rn

All this to say we should Ghost of Christmas future the capitalists and when they refuse our reasonable demands we should drop the compromise, take their bedsheets while they're still warm and show them whose name is upon the gravestone.
When adjusted for inflation, Bob Cratchet (the over worked and severely underpaid employee of Ebenezer Scrooge who is the archetypal working poor Victorian) made about $53,000 per year.

If you make less than $53k per year, your employer is fucking you over worse than Ebenezer Scrooge.

If the agency actually had to plan this all out traditionally instead of moving straight to production, there would have been more time to ask, “Is our message really that the holidays are awful and that you should hole up in a McDonalds instead of being with your loved ones?” 2/

You have to understand that the film industry has always seen creative personnel as a hindrance and a necessary evil to make money. AI is a dream come true for them but they don’t realize how easily it can bite them like in the butt, leaving them with yesterday’s trend

Brand recognition fades, especially if the brand isn’t producing anything new. And stifling human creativity to make extra money may work in the short run but studios that follow that path collapse in the long run. Look at pre-Hollywood

The Disney AI deal pretty much confirms the direction that I thought big studios would go: make themselves purveyors of IP for the machines. In their minds, it’s a way to generate money without pesky actors or directors or critics.
