Trump loves to throw the term "antifa" around whenever there's a coordinated act of resistance against him. But understanding what it actually means, and how its tactics can be scaled up to resist an increasingly fascist government, matters more than ever. @letsgomathias.bsky.social breaks it down.
The Truth About Antifa That Trump Doesn't Want You To Know
A new book sheds light on the underground anti-fascist movement working to infiltrate and eradicate neo-nazi groups

Dutch site IDs ICE agents via public data

“ICE aren’t actually fearful of their safety…What they’re fearful of is not being invited to baseball games or not being invited to the pub with their friends. Community exclusion – that’s what they’re fearful of”

Hegseth has radicalized Richard Leon, the most conservative partisanly Republican judge not appointed by Trump I've ever met.
BREAKING: Judge blocks Hegseth effort to punish Sen. Kelly.

"This Court has all it needs to conclude that Defendants have trampled on Senator Kelly's First Amendment freedoms and threatened the constitutional liberties of millions of military retirees."

Many good insights in this thread. A note from my cis experience - we might not have a sense of our own genders, but we live in a world where people accept and confirm our gender identities all the time.

Trust trans people.
I know cis people don't realize the cruelty, so with gentleness and empathy for them, let me try to explain.

Being trans is difficult. Instinctively, you already know this because you think it would be better not to be trans.
“We would expect support for full social transition to be agreed very rarely”
There you have it, the gov wants trans kids to rot in the closet

Some people online have spread warnings that ICE may access Ring doorbell cameras to use them as surveillance tools through the security technology company Flock. We investigated. Here's what we found. 👇

The relationships between tech companies and the Trump administration have come under more scrutiny as opposition to ICE actions has grown.

more people lived in the Maya lowlands than on the Italian peninsula during the peak of the Roman empire – all crammed into an area a third of the size

but the 1950s "law of environmental limitation” held that lowland rainforests, with thin soils, simply could not support large advanced societies…
Apocalypse no: how almost everything we thought we knew about the Maya is wrong
For many years the prevailing debate about the Maya centred upon why their civilisation collapsed. Now, many scholars are asking: how did the Maya survive?

You can joke about Pam Bondi’s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but I’m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. — This should shake everyone to their core.

As an established writer, I'm not really worried by AI, because AI can't do what I do. It can only pretend. And I've cultivated the kind of audience that can spot the difference.

BUT... that word "established" is load bearing. The opportunity to LEARN to do what I do is what AI is taking away.

A newly released affidavit from the FBI reveals what experts have long warned:

The Trump administration is purposely recycling thoroughly debunked lies about the 2020 election in an effort to “take over” the handling of the midterms.
The FBI's Fulton County raid was based on debunked claims by election deniers
The evidence provided for seizing 700 boxes of ballots was shockingly thin.

Claims like "It takes only 20 minutes to produce a short blurb based on the transcript of a meeting" but if you ask "how long does the same blurb take an experienced human?" they look at you like you killed their puppy.
I took this possibility seriously and will continue to do so, but what I'm seeing in news has been big claims paired with a lack of interest in comparing the AI's abilities to human workers.

I took a little heat pre-strike for being quoted in Variety for saying "the real threat of AI is there's a lot of hot, dumb money behind it." This to me is still the primary threat -- disruption without good results, and we'll be left to clean up the mess.
Maybe take seriously the idea that the people at the levers of implementation will try it even if it's *not actually any good*.
