Pies are meant to be savory. A sweet pie is an affront to God and nature.
I get a lot of hate for this view and in turn I'd only ask if you've ever had a pie as good as a typical cheesecake. The answer is no, you have not. Cheesecake invalidates the whole pie category. Hell, regular cake barely survives the cheesecake onslaught on the strength of carrot cake alone.
The dirty secret of pies is that they have the lowest ceiling potential of all sweets. Your best pie is merely fine. Your median pie is bad.

In Morrow County, healthy adults were coming down with unexplained medical conditions, including diseases that usually afflicted the elderly.
In a survey of 30 homes, at least 25 miscarriages and a half dozen people living with one kidney were reported.

This is about journalism (unflinchingly correct) but is certainly true of many industries today, not least academia, game development, and likely cinema.
I can't disagree with any of this, except to say it's not even really about the money, per se: the bosses will happily nuke a perfectly profitable enterprise just because they don't like it, understand it, or think it should exist
It’s not ever about the numbers—you can bring insane audience engagement, views, eyeballs to your verticals, shape the conversation in wonderful ways, win awards and on and on
And they still will nuke your job and your entire desk in the name of capital consolidation and kissing the fucking ring

This is about journalism (unflinchingly correct) but is certainly true of many industries today, not least academia, game development, and likely cinema.

When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”
It’s very telling that opening your publication to MAGA “thought” requires a massive downgrade in quality control.

I've been there everyday. Everyday, ICE riots. Portland never does. They'd kill us if we did.
The only time Portland police declared the scene in front of the ICE building in South Portland a riot this year was more than four months ago, on June 14
Trump administration keeps saying there are riots at Portland’s ICE building, but last one was 4 months ago
Just two people have been charged with rioting, and that was back in June.
