How did Ida B. Wells and other African Americans respond to historical erasure at the 1892 world exposition held in Chicago? They organized, wrote themselves back into the record, defied racist propaganda and educated the world about their collective achievements www.lib.uchicago.edu/ead/pdf/ibwe...

Disability is the only minority group you can join at any time. No one asks for it or expects it, it just happens

It’s not a moral failing. You didn’t “deserve” it. Most people will experience disability at some point in their lives

So why do we treat disabled people so badly? 🧵

it’s really something to see supposed ~for the people mass movements push back on new admin’s harmful policies~ with so few masks

folks public health is only as good as the bodies thru which it is applied—no one’s doing it for you anymore.

if you don’t participate in prevention, it doesn’t work.

You should also be masking up to decrease your chances of getting sick & getting there sick 🙂😷
let me strongly recommend the flu shot to whoever hasn't gotten one for this season. i just had a *terrible* bout with the flu that almost certainly would have been WAY worse had i not been vaccinated

i repeat myself:

when we say “you can become disabled at any moment” it doesn’t just mean you could have an aneurysm, it also means the state could declare you “unfit”— in need of “reparent”ing— for things recently considered normal.
Even the most disturbing RFK Jr. headline always manages to have a detail inside creepier than you could have imagined. I’m sorry, did you just say Black kids should have a chance to get “re-parented”???? Gift link wapo.st/4hW2xGI

Hot take: If you are planning on seeking citizenship in another country, don’t get an official autism diagnosis. Whether or not the country says it will exclude you, in fine print, because of it, don’t give them the opportunity to disqualify you because of a disability. Ableism is global.

Just got back from a training on sexual victimization prevention, and it was brought up *once* that people with disabilities are much more likely to be victimized. When asked for specific resources for certain disabilities, there weren't any.

It's like we aren't worth learning how to protect.

Kind of weird how much we've separated egg prices from the h5n1 virus. Like we get that's why eggs are expensive? Because we've failed to contain it and farmers have had to cull large amounts of chickens leading to a reduction in production?

And festering shame. How many people contributed to someone getting sick? Disabled? …

They need some narrative that lets them off the hook. It was the vaccine. It was preexisting conditions. It was anything but me. It’s China’s fault. It’s the lockdowns. It’s the masks.

Republican Congressman Andy Biggs has introduced a bill to abolish OSHA.

Workers are already struggling with workplaces that aren’t Covid safe. We’ve failed to upgrade air quality or install any other meaningful mitigations for an ongoing pandemic

This bill would be devastating for worker’s rights

In my experiences as a human and as a therapist, I’ve learned there is a certain percentage of people who need to experience things firsthand before they truly understand what it’s like - words, warnings, other people’s experiences, etc just don’t get through.
