I’ve long said Mamdani is not a socialist, he is a New Dealer.
People definitely responded to Mamdani and voted positively for him rather than merely against the crook and the groper. But I doubt there is much of an endorsement of any flavor of socialism; in fact, that's the faction Mamdani is likeliest to disappoint if not blow off entirely.

When Mamdani becomes Mayor at midnight, it is a real political feat. Remember that. There aren't many of those. They won against the odds by getting their man into living rooms and churches. The press came late. We'll see what he does with it, but that is worthy of respect.

This is what you say. Maybe Gavin Newsom was is capable of truly channeling this level of moral outrage because he always rambles, but this is what you say. The federal government has declared war on states that he feels are insufficiently loyal to him.

Fascists and race extremists know how evil their ideology is, which is why they use subtle ironic (and confusing) language to describe their hateful beliefs. That’s why they use “cosmopolitan” instead of “Jews,” “criminal alien” instead of “Latino,” and “remigration” instead of “ethnic cleansing.”
As a person who has been studying extreme far right ideologies for the last decade (and did a PhD on immigration) I find the entrance of “remigration” into the mainstream American political lexicon so profoundly disturbing
