So this was actually a thing I heard often before ACA. A few years later I took a corp job & in 2020, my husband followed but people would openly tell us it was our fault we didn’t have insurance b/c of the jobs we chose. 1. Recession. 2. Value isn’t decided by work. 3. Healthcare is a human right.
A few years after ACA my husband would be like “Remember when they told it was our fault we didn’t have insurance because we could just get a “real” job? In a recession? And then they’d just let people die? That was crazy.”
I can’t believe we’re back here.

In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.
We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party

“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”
I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

The new Republican plan same as the old Republican plan: Fucking die already.
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…

15 Democrats just voted for what will now lead to even more job loss. And that’s on top of those losing the only thing that helps in a vast spectrum of medical issues. Assholes.
icymi, the senate deal also kills 325,000 jobs in the hemp industry, meaning our bsky comrades like @fraying.bsky.social who runs a small-time farm that makes cbd products, is absolutely fucked if that part makes it through reconciliation

Tonight, I am voting no on a procedural vote on an appropriations deal that would re-open the government. Since July, I have been clear: to earn my vote, Republicans would have to do something to bring down the cost of health care for working and middle-class Michiganders. (1/4)

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.
