I saw this coming. They we're always going to do this because it's what they've always done when the victim is imperfect, or the perpetrator is one of them: play word games qualifying abuse and exploitation to make it sound like something else.

Enforced positivity serves the same purpose as politeness in our society. Just as Charlie Kirk was apparently entitled to say whatever vile thing he wanted so long as it was said “politely” -

I love this man's work, particularly in Sword of Doom, one of my favorite movies. It's wonderful to me that I got to live for a while at the same time as him.
absolutely devastated to learn of Nakadai Tatsuya's passing. for the past 20 years, he has been on a *very* short list of my favourite actors of all time. a truly incomparable thespian.

I was talking about exactly this with my in-laws yesterday, saying that it'd be holiday travel that would break this because perish the thought an airline company loses money! I thought I was being glib but I guess it was more that I know what to expect from these ghouls: money over people, always.
