You've noticed this with search results.

You search for something, and Google helpfully answers as if you searched for something entirely different that just happens to use some of the same words.

Try it, search for stuff about *hypo*tension
When it first appeared, there was a really good example of this:

The internet is chock full of equations for converting Fahrenheit to Celsius and vice versa.

Chatgpt stole all of this, and trained on it

It'd give you the wrong answer about an equation that only looked similar to a C-F conversion

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

something very important for Dems to realize is that the tech overlords are not people you can win back by promising a lighter touch and saying a few nice things

they’ve gotten a taste of mask-off fascism and they are not going back, they don’t want to play nice with the peons anymore
There’s a funny Politico story showing that the latest polling on AI shows 80-20 in favor of heavy regulations, an absolute slam dunk platform, but Dems are worried about not winning back mask-off tech CEO donors

Another dozen or so authors could request a correction like this. "In Covid's Wake" egregiously misrepresents research and ignores the scientific consensus throughout. Embarrassing that it's being praised by credible outlets.

Still unreported, should be investigated:

ICE shot Richard outside a mall. I visited mall security office. Guard said ICE and LAPD came in, used thumb drive to copy mall’s video footage, and THEN DELETED THE EVIDENCE from mall’s local drives. He showed me the missing timeline part saying “no data.”
Huge win for Richard Noticias LA, TikTok journalist shot by ICE. Criminal charges dismissed with prejudice, meaning can’t be refiled.

ICE did him DIRTY. Repeatedly. Inhumane treatment, basically medical torture.

Still in ICE custody on immigration case. They owe him unconditional release.

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have shown Alzheimer’s disease can be REVERSED- not just prevented. Using a potent neuroprotective compound called P7C3-A20, they found RESTORING balance to a central cellular energy molecule (NAD+) not only PREVENTED disease features but REVERSED them, EVEN at late stages.

This is the dream; but in practice, companies that are too stupid and short-sighted to insist on good code are also too stupid and short-sighted to fix their code to be more maintainable later.
Later, those people who *didn't* gleefully lobotomize the part of their brain that does programming, will be hired back as consultants at many many times their yearly salaries to do what for several generations was considered to be a minimum baseline of competency, to fix that unmaintainable code.

the inexplicable reality of Gorsuch has always been that he has a deep well of empathy for the victims of atrocities as long as those atrocities are at least 150 years old and no interest in stopping exactly the same behavior if it’s happening currently.
He still seems weirdly correct about big natives cases (Brackeen, San Carlos Apache, Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, Herrera v. Wyoming, Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians)

This is something i have wanted to write about for a while. The PR around the term AI defining it as LLMs has obscured all of the technologies like Machine Learning that were called AI not that long ago and actually have changed numerous production processes.
Here's another way the intentional PR conflation of the term AI with all ML is undermining academic work:

I'm collab'ing on an archive management project that involves developing an ML tool to analyze texts.

The answer to asks for funding/resources has often been, "Just use chatgpt/copilot/etc.!"
I agree that the LLM makers are at fault for confusion around the term "AI," and I think it's entirely intentional. I think they want to be able to equivocate around the term, and say things like, "We're curing cancer," when their chatbot is clearly not.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...
