This is the thing I think trolls, etc don't understand: Once I block you I literally never think about you again. Shit, five minutes after I block someone I don't remember who they are or why I blocked them. They simply and literally don't exist for me anymore. If this is a victory for you, fine.
Some of y’all must have a blocking kink. It’s weird — you’re intentionally rude, obstinate or worse — in my replies as it daring me to block you as it gains you something. I won’t remember two minutes from now.

And the truth is that as a man's real power grows and his knowledge widens, ever the way he can follow grows narrower: until at last he chooses nothing, but does only and wholly what he must do.

I reject the whole premise of this thread because what it describes is...just literally democracy? The whole point is the "republic if you can keep it". There is no point where you can go on autopilot and the conceit that we can is exactly how we got the racist reality show host as a president.
i don't like "steelmanning" but i do want to say that the discussion around "we have to vote all the time to keep out fascism" has never really addressed the core of the issue, which is that it gets tiring for every election to be "the most important election of our lifetimes."

And like, "theory of victory" requires the engagement to actually put pieces (i.e. political representatives) in place to stop the illiberal forces, otherwise there's only the power to do rearguard action and the exact appeals of crisis being criticized here

Complaining that following the Constitution will stop you from doing the thing you want to do is... an admission that what you want to do is unconstitutional.

You swore an oath to defend the Constitution. You are violating that oath, Rep. Alford. Time to go home and let someone else do the job.

My main opinion on Graham Platner is if there was a 41 year old guy running in the Republican primary for the Maine Senate seat and it turned out that he had a Nazi tattoo for 15 years and then he claimed that he just didn't know it was a Nazi tattoo, none of you would ever stop screaming about it.

Part of these reason this keeps happening is that people online want ideological purity & righteous indignation over actual governing.

The other, though, is that lots of folks, here & generally, have imagined a Bill Clinton & a Barack Obama who never existed:
I know a lot of folks here weren't alive when Clinton was president & don't remember much about Obama. But a lot of us here were/do & the rose-colored glasses through which a lot of supposedly liberal/progressive folks view those guys & their policies compared to Biden or Harris is really something.
As I've said before, we've never seriously wrestled with Obama's (& Clinton's) utterly horrible fiscal policies, because Trump's & GWB's fiscal policies were so obviously & clownishly bad that O/C got free passes for totally embracing the household analogy & the deficit hackery.

Again, I hope everyone likes Lost Decades, because the lesson Democrats have learned is to never try for full employment & ambitious policy in response to massive economic crises, bc you’ll get destroyed for single digit inflation you didn’t even cause & told you didn’t care about the working class
Again, I hope everyone likes Lost Decades. Because we are going to have a lot more of them in the next several decades, especially if we ever have a Democratic president again.
Again, along with the democracy concerns, I hope everyone loves Lost Decades, like we had under Obama. Because <every> Democrat, for the rest of our lives, is now going to learn the lesson that grinding 10-year long recessions are better than single-digit inflation that's a bit high for 1.5 years.

👇🎯 People’s hate of Will here have driven them to InS(t)an(cil)ity

You don’t have to like everything about Biden or his policies, or agree w/ everything Will says, to acknowledge the basic direction-of-the-sunrise fact that Biden was the most progressive POTUS in decades:

bsky.app/profile/mcop...
Biden was the most economically progressive president since LBJ at least, he pursued a full-employment economy at huge political risk, it worked spectacularly.

And what happened is that the entire progressive universe decided that he must not have done any of it, or else he would have been popular
Are the progressive economic policies in the room with us right now?

If you’re wondering what effect this will have on how the states run their elections, the bottom line is they’ll wipe their ass with it.
Trump’s follow up post says he’s going to issue an executive order on voter ID.

“If we can't get it through Congress, there are Legal reasons why this SCAM is not permitted. I will be presenting them shortly, in the form of an Executive Order.”

A thing folks often forget about Revolution-era America is there were pockets of Catholics who’d effectively had their faith suppressed *in America* and, also, French Huguenots who were only here because Catholics in France massacred thousands of them and threw their bodies into the Seine River.

Even if the Democrats take the House AND the Senate, it is going to require ~17 <Republicans> to end the daily lawless authoritarianism until 2029, let alone to pass major institutional reforms to restore/complete 🇺🇸 democracy. There is no Green Lantern Democrats can use. There are only 2 solutions:
There remain only two solutions to our authoritarian problem, & both involve the remaining Republicans who care about democracy & the rule of law making hard choices. Democrats cannot do this for them. It requires a national front & a new center-right party of Bill Kristols
