"No voting on who gets to be people." -- N. K. Jemison. Trans rights are human rights.
The "meaningful reforms" are too timid and not responding to the continual stakes-raising of the administration. At a minimum, bring back safe zones of schools and daycare, hospitals, places of worship, courts, and POLLING PLACES. @schumer.senate.gov

Progressive caucus leader Greg Casar calls for five ‘non-negotiable’ items to be included before Democrats vote yes

Here are the seven Democrats who voted for ICE funding:
•Davis (NC-01)
•Cuellar (TX-28)
•Gillen (NY-04)
•Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03)
•Gonzalez (TX-34)
•Golden (ME-02)
•Suozzi (NY-03)
Wouldn’t it be nice to see them all challenged? But alas…. See 🧵

True story, last week my mom, who is gf, was in an ER for about 8 hours with no food that she could eat. Eventually someone found her a banana. When I got there late in the evening, I brought her a meal from home, but otherwise she might have gotten nothing until morning.
For the food and drink, obviously listen to the nurses about whether they can have it, but I have been in the scenario where "the hospital kitchen closed an hour ago and all we can feed you is the Graham crackers we have at the nurse's station" after almost 24h of no food.

Completely agree with this. Roberts Court decisions should not stand as precedent, if we can get to a point where we are healing the damage of these years.
#SCOTUS is a captured entity, corrupted through the core. If the body is ever healed, all decisions made by the Roberts Court should be revisited.

Between the pardons for other drug traffickers and the obvious collusion between DOJ and a political agenda, you'd think there would be a vindictive prosecution case. Just thinking about the recent Abrego Garcia case. Or hey maybe it'll be a good old fascist show trial.

This is a beautiful wish.
My wish for 2026 is that Europeans will be as critical and vigilant about authoritarianism and racism in their own country as they are about them in the U.S. and that Americans will be as critical and vigilant about authoritarianism and racism in the U.S. as Europeans are.

I vaguely knew that American political parties don't have much control over who adopts their label, but TIL that "party discipline" is not just not practiced, it's illegal in our electoral system..
This little tiff reminded me of this great piece about why political parties are illegal in the United States. We don't have parties like they exist elsewhere in the world, & so our expectations about them are all screwed up. Which is too bad, because democracy is unthinkable without parties.

Another huge blinding neon sign of how Not Normal politics is right now. The very mention of a politician cutting a single penny of funding to homeless vets would've been a major scandal at any time between WWII and 2016. Today? Billions of dollars? Just part of the scenery.

This shows Democrats should contest every race, in all 50 states. Concede nothing. Gerrymandering wins again,. tonight, but the day will come when districts like this will be tinder for the fire.

TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there.

Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.

It's not just the ones who folded. Schumer has been signaling all week that a capitulation was going to be a-ok, not holding the caucus together. His no vote is no figleaf.
I think Senate folders are significantly underestimating how fucking angry Democratic voters are at them

I don't get it. Why isn't Dem leadership using the ballroom as a symbol of lawless destruction and connecting that to the SNAP benefits cuts next week?
GOV. WHITMER: “.. no one is worried about building a ballroom in Washington, D.C. What they want is to make sure that they can feed their kids next week.” Most Americans are “never going to step foot in a ballroom over the course of their lifetime.”

My list isn't exactly this but it's similar. It's not sustainable.
I now communicate with people via text, Gmail, Discord, FB messenger, Whatsapp, Signal, iMessages (iPad only), IG dms, Tumblr dms, bsky dms, and two different healthcare messaging systems and I don’t even currently work. It’s absurd and untenable.
