"No voting on who gets to be people." -- N. K. Jemison. Trans rights are human rights.
It's not just the ones who folded. Schumer has been signaling all week that a capitulation was going to be a-ok, not holding the caucus together. His no vote is no figleaf.
I think Senate folders are significantly underestimating how fucking angry Democratic voters are at them

There is a petition to sign and not much time - deadline is Nov 19.
MA combines low pay ($82,044 for year-round full-time work) with “stipends” doled out at the sole discretion of leadership that can go upwards of $119,000. Want to cross leadership or vote against them? You better be independently wealthy!

people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

Taking a moment to honor the aunts by courtesy and by blood in my life, most of them gone now. They've been my guides when I needed them.

I don't get it. Why isn't Dem leadership using the ballroom as a symbol of lawless destruction and connecting that to the SNAP benefits cuts next week?
GOV. WHITMER: “.. no one is worried about building a ballroom in Washington, D.C. What they want is to make sure that they can feed their kids next week.” Most Americans are “never going to step foot in a ballroom over the course of their lifetime.”

A reminder to Massachusetts voters, next Saturday Oct 25 is the close of voter registration before election day. You can check your registration status and register online at www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ See you at the voting booth showing "this is what democracy looks like" all over again.

My list isn't exactly this but it's similar. It's not sustainable.
I now communicate with people via text, Gmail, Discord, FB messenger, Whatsapp, Signal, iMessages (iPad only), IG dms, Tumblr dms, bsky dms, and two different healthcare messaging systems and I don’t even currently work. It’s absurd and untenable.

It's outrageous to say "America should have no kings and no tyrants." I'm going to go be outrageous, see you there!
Mike Johnson: "This hate America rally that they have coming up for October 18? The antifa crowd, the pro-Hamas crowd, and the Marxists, they're all gonna gather on the Mall. It is an outrageous gathering for outrageous purposes ... all this has gotta come to an end."

That plane wasn't a bribe or anything.
Hegseth: "I'm also proud that today we're signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatari Emeri air force facility at the Mountain Home Airbase in Idaho."

Every city Trump is targeting is an economic hub upon which this country depends to survive. That's where the money they're spending on ICE comes from

They are depending on us to keep handing them sacks of cash while meekly submitting to authoritarian rule, and we can simply not

I'm deeply disappointed in Rep. Katherine Clark's decision to vote yes to support the bill memorializing Charlie Kirk. It is offensive to all who have been attacked by Kirk's anti-Semitism and bigotry. She, along with Jeffries displayed a lack of leadership when we need to resist MAGA lies.

I know everyone is consumed with other news, but this is a big fucking deal: The Trump administration says that IUDs and the Pill are actually abortions.

Here's what USAID told the NYT about the $10m in birth control they plan to destroy.

Massachusetts passes laws with glacial speed, and, for a solidly Blue state, has been curiously unresponsive to some of the avenues for change. This film highlights the legislative structures that are making that status stay quo. www.shadowsdoc.com - watch the trailer, support the film.

Technology is not destiny. This whole thread is important.
And you’re probably thinking, well, the technology is already here, it’s going to determine what happens, alas. Well, technology, even very widespread technology, does not always determine how people act, often in fundamental ways.

Let me give you a little parable by way of example:

NEW — Kelvin Membreño will be deported to El Salvador by ICE tomorrow. He’s the birth father of three US citizen daughters and has become an important part of their lives.

Here their adoptive mother makes a last ditch plea to let him stay in the same country as the girls. A gutting guest essay:
A mother's urgent plea to stop ICE from deporting her daughters’ birth father tomorrow
He served his time in the US. He deserves to heal here, too.
