Remember when NIMBYs on Seattle’s Eastside sued multiple times to try to stop an innocuous transmission improvement that would have upgraded 1950s-era equipment to modern standards because they thought they knew better than the local utility what electricity demand looked like?
the planet will boil over if we do not fix the insane regulatory mess that makes it take A DECADE to build a SINGLE POWER LINE
After 10 years of controversy, lawsuits, and even a ballot referendum, the New England Clean Energy Connect is up and running 🔌

With a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, the new line can satisfy 20% of Massachusetts' electricity needs. www.wbur.org/news/2026/01... @wbur.org #energysky

This is a bigger self-own for US automakers than building gas guzzlers and low quality cars in the '70s.
Trump’s plan is that the entire world uses Chinese EVs while America’s auto industry sells gas powered cars literally only to Americans

Trump has imposed a ban on clean energy on public land, with 22 new gigawatts stranded as he himself says we're in an electricity affordability crisis. www.canarymedia.com/articles/cle...
22GW of renewables thwarted or in limbo under Trump ‘blockade’
An Interior Department memo is hampering wind and solar on public lands. It’s one of many federal actions slowing the build-out of cheap, clean energy.

A decade in the making, clean energy power line for Mass. is up and running
A major new transmission line that can bring renewable electricity from Quebec to Massachusetts is finally, after a whole lot of controversy and delay, starting to deliver power.

Trump’s like a Bizarro Pigouvian in that he subsidizes things with negative externalities and taxes things with positive externalities 🙃
"Consumers Energy spent $164M from May to September to keep its coal plant running. During that time, the plant earned only $84M in revenue.

Preventing the nation’s coal plants from retiring over the next three years could cost consumers at least $3B per year"

As much as I am a fan of innovative medical technology, the easiest way to solve the “no OBGYNs in many rural counties” is to allow foreign OBGYNs to move to those counties and be allowed to practice when they do
Dr Oz: "Alabama has no OBGYNs in many of their counties, so they're doing something pretty cool. They're actually having robots do ultrasounds on these pregnant moms."

This was a really great episode of ours and I strongly urge folks to check it out!!!
In a supply-constrained market, 50-year mortgages won't solve the issue. In fact, they might make things worse. For an average of $100 in savings, assuming you have the same interest rate (and you very well might not!), you lose out on building equity. Michael Negron's verdict: gimmick.

Hot dogs aren’t made of dogs. Girl Scout cookies aren’t made of Girl Scouts. But in Europe and several states, you can’t call products “meat” unless they’re made of dead animals. Are bear claws next?

people always think of media as this top down thing imposed on people, but in practice it’s always a dynamic between what media producers supply and what media consumers demand. a lot of RW anti-woke media surged precisely because people reacted against the era of woke overreach
It's odd, isn't it, how the supposed "woke overreach" that we are told has repulsed all of America & sent Dems into the wilderness coincided, almost perfectly, with final collapse of media gatekeepers & the rise of unrestrained RW media & social media dominance.

It’s always funny to see people who fight tooth and nail against any effort to make it easier to get clean energy permitted in the US praise China, a country where lawsuits by NGOs against energy projects are basically illegal and “community input” is nonexistent
Can’t dominante in science if you’re run by climate deniers, the original anti-science meatheads.

If people like a policy, it sticks around. If people don't know about it, it expires. We need to account for popularity when designing public policy to ensure it keeps working like it's supposed to.

Let's get rid of red tape around affordable housing, starting with the requirement for a steel chassis at the bottom of a manufactured home. This outdated HUD rule allows a home to be moved, but most homes are not moved these days. Michael Negron discusses this and more on our new episode, out now!
