Today's baking done. First is Spelt Linzer Cookies using a recipe from Central Milling. They'll be better tomorrow but so far pretty tasty. Then a pumpkin pie because I didn't get to make one for Thanksgiving. Funny that I'm just getting around to holiday baking now that the holidays are over.

This sucks. I've been to tour twice, even getting to look through the Great Refractor. It's an incredible experience and this telescope is still doing meaningful work.

Early on Thursday, Dec. 25, severe winds gusting up to 114 miles per hour tore loose half of the shutter on the 140-year old 36-inch Great Refractor dome. No one was injured.

I want a postal bank funded by the Fed; every American gets an interest bearing savings account and electronic debit card for free. All monies disbursed from or received by the government flow through this mechanism.
No big change to the way we order society is without downsides, both potential and real; but if we start by addressing the actual first order problems, solutions get a lot simpler. People are hungry? Give them food. People are poor? Give them money.
