Currently HCC members represent a diverse group of individuals with varying gender identies that have established and helped the club grow over the years. HCC has no interest in being a part of any national organization that adopts policies that are discriminatory toward its own members, regardless of the context. HCC strongly recommends that USA Curling (USAC) refuse to adopt mandated changes to their policies and stand up for their principles. Doing so will send a message ot its membership and the wider community that we, as curlers, will not comply with discriminatory and hateful directives. Discrimination is against the spirit of curling. If USAC adopts this new policy, then HCC will end its affiliation with the organization. USAC participation offers minimal benefit to HCC members while creating less accessibility for current and future members of the sport. What little USAC has to offer in the realm of participation in national and international events would be denied to members by adopting these policies. Regardless of the course that USAC chooses, HCC will proceed to formally establish an inclusion polity that clearly communicates that curlers of any gender identity are welcome to participate in the club however they choose. Did my "2026 Window Shopping" last night and, well, we are f*cked in CA. @charlesgaba.com - those "pre-retiree" hikes are hitting squarely at people in their mid-50's. We're staring at ~$30k in spend next year. And we'll be dropping down to a Bronze plan from our Silver-esque COBRA.

Just insane.
A 63-yr old couple earning $90,000/year would go from paying $683/mo to a jaw-dropping $2.945/mo... or over 4.6x AS MUCH FOR THE SAME POLICY. That'd be $35,000/YR IN PREMIUMS ALONE, or 39% OF THEIR GROSS INCOME.

first real storm of the season is making its way across the Bay Area. 1/4" of rain so far and the winds are blowing lots of duff/debris out of the redwoods. should be an exciting night.

I'd neglected to take a picture of the finished cake before we all tucked into it, but here's the remaining half. I may have overbaked it just a touch; it definitely needed tenting in the oven so it didn't get too brown. Overall, it's delicious and I'll most definitely make this again. 🍽️ 🍜

friends are coming for dinner so I'm making Apfelkuchen. I have an almond cake that I've put apples into, but wanted to give something else a try. Made the almond paste yesterday and the resulting batter is REALLY tasty. Hope it turns out! Recipe in the comments. 🍽️ 🍜
