“The coming world order, whatever it may be, will be shaped by others—and America will need to negotiate its place in it. No matter how selfless our Minnesota martyrs, no matter how valiant our resisters, the kind of America we will be won’t be of our choosing alone”

"We were not sent to Washington to compromise fundamental values. The methods of execution at the death camps must comply with the Eighth Amendment's ban on cruel or unusual punishment or we will filibuster the American Carnage & Death Camp (AC/DC) Act of 2027. The American people deserve no less!"

The answer is “no”.

Every pound spent on bombs & tanks is money stolen from schools & hospitals.

Anti-imperialism isn’t vibes, it’s a commitment to confronting empire.

Celebrating Bovino's scalp also strikes me as naively premature. 🧵
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Apologies for yet another Irish Revolution comparison: the Irish population was very much opposed to the Easter Rising in 1916 because downtown Dublin was destroyed for, seemingly, no purpose. Until the British executed James Connolly as he was dying of gangrene. He was strapped to a chair and shot.
There's another way to look at this. ICE is doing everything the military manual tells you not to do to civilian populations because it creates insurgencies where none existed before.

This is particularly ironic because I think that a lot of the post-Oct 7 attack on TikTok was driven by people wanting to prevent western audiences from seeing the Gaza genocide with their own eyes. So now we are facing the prospect of a crackdown on TikTok-documented state violence at home.

An astute and chilling observation.
The American story was always focused on freedom. Republicans said it most. Trump never mentions freedom and it seems to have dropped out of US discourse completely.

Don't let any Blue MAGA apologist tell you there's nothing Dems can do. 🧵
Yes, the GOP controls Congress. That's why it's key to show Congress COULD stop the madness. And it's not just the DHS bill. Congress could repeal the prior multi-year $75b for DHS; set up a special investigative committee (cf. Watergate); amend the Insurrection Act; etc.

The linked analysis may seem compelling, but I simply can't trust the judgement of anyone who believes this: "the most promising source of renewed economic dynamism — AI — is likely to worsen inequality and increase societal instability ...."
Democratic politicians have, though, pursued growth in GDP at the expense of other values. One response to @jburnmurdoch.ft.com pessimistic scenario is refocus on those values, combined with egalitarianism, sufficiency and quality of life. Not "it's the economy, stupid" but "it's the the society"

I'm reskeeting this thread because I plan to spend some more time reading all the linked pieces and replies after work.

(UFO shit, if that's of interest to you.)
Alright fuck it I'm bored so I'm gonna start a separate UFO thread here. Feel free to mute if you think I've lost my mind, but someone who worked a UFO-centric job told me in 2024 to look into USAF Plant 42 and "pay attention to where this happens."

FOIA docs showed they were right about Plant 42.

I have *genuinely* become more open to the possibility that Christianity is legitimate due to how strong the parallels are between Trump and the Antichrist. 🧵

Two points are made in this essay that most people do not wish to accept:

(1) Trumpism will outlast Trump.

(2) Elections will not stop Trumpism.
There is no pre-Trump world to which we can return. That has all been washed away.

And there is no near future that is not defined by him and the cataclysm of his rule.
