The UPS cargo plane, built in 1991, was nearly airborne Tuesday when a bell sounded in the cockpit, National Transportation Safety Board member Todd Inman said earlier Friday. For the next 25 seconds, the bell rang and the pilots tried to control the aircraft as it barely lifted off the runway, its left wing ablaze and missing an engine, and then plowed into the ground in a spectacular fireball. The cockpit voice recorder captured the bell, which sounded about 37 seconds after the crew called for takeoff thrust, Inman said. There are different types of alarms with varying meanings, he said, and investigators haven’t determined why the bell rang, though they know the left wing was burning and the engine on that side had detached.

A long and comprehensive opinion, but this jumped out at me: The judge accused the Federal Protective Service—which was called in to suppress the protests—of lying under oath to slander the regular Portland police.😬

DOJ recently admitted that other FPS claims in this case were objectively false.
As related to the time period immediately before the President’s callout of the National Guard, this Court heard testimony from FPS officers that PPB does not respond to their requests and that FPS stopped calling PPB altogether.13 The Court does not find this testimony to be credible. FPS did call PPB for help, and PPB routinely responded to these calls for help. One example is PPB’s response to the suspicious abandoned vehicle left near the ICE facility on August 16, 2025. FPS Commander W.T. testified that the Portland Metro Explosive Disposal unit responded “really fast.” Tr. 10/30/2025 549:2–6. The FPS report from that day shows that the response included an Explosives Detection Canine Team responding on scene roughly half an hour after the vehicle was abandoned. Ex. 835 at 5. No bomb was discovered, and the vehicle was later towed. Id.

Both Parties affirm the importance of and their support for civil rights. Cornell affirms its commitment to complying with federal civil rights laws and agrees to include the Department of Justice's "Guidance for Recipients of Federal Funding Regarding Unlawful Discrimination" of July 29, 2025 as a training resource to faculty and staff so long as that Guidance remains operative.
