I agree it rocks.
ESPN treating WWE as an actual sport is very silly.

It did occur to me that "medieval romance featuring werewolf" might be a quite different thing from a "werewolf romance" but I am amused to reassure you that I have checked the plot summary on Wikipedia and it is indeed a proper werewolf romance.

Pure psycho shit.

‘give me a few words from Mayor Danny Avula to the family of a 24-year-old woman who was killed.’”
‘Make this sound more like Danny Avula’: here’s how the mayor used ChatGPT in 2025
Records show that, in addition to discussing the city’s six-day water crisis, Avula routinely used OpenAI’s popular chatbot to help write speeches and letters, prepare for interviews and develop polic...

ted cruz leaving is our most credible severe weather alert
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was spotted earlier today, January 20, 2026, on a plane heading to Laguna Beach as the state of Texas braces for a rare ice threat and arctic cold front.

I see we’ve moved from “Only hateful extremist lunatics say Britain is cravenly obedient to the White House” to “Of course we have been cravenly obedient to the White House, now we must focus on the future and not ask questions about whose fault this was”, somehow without anyone having been wrong.

Right: I already read the other two books with McSweeney and Reed bragging to journos about how excellent their campaigns of lying and wrecking were, so I’m not expecting revelations here: details, basically. So I’ll try to avoid doing 😲😲😲 every time there’s some new piece of despicable bastardry.

WANDA is such a wonderful and unsettling movie. It's also based in part on the strange life of Alma Malone, whom I wrote about for Topic (RIP) several years ago (and reprinted in UNSPEAKABLE ACTS because you know, editor's discretion.)

Here's an archived link to that 2017 story:

They're planning on powering the city by attaching a turbine to Alasdair Gray spinning in his grave.
NEW: Glasgow City Council has just approved a massive AI-generated mural to be painted in the city centre.

The illustration of Scottish elements inexplicably contains a bald eagle.

The planner says those upset about it are "keyboard warriors" who should "calm down"

If you genuinely believed that Bari Weiss was building a free speech university you would lose at chess to a dog.
this is a rollicking great read

it's a story of a bunch of tenured idealists who believed that they were building a university dedicated to free speech and free inquiry, but then lost control of their project to... the right-wing megadonors who funded the university

I read an interview today where Alison Bechdel talked about using chatGPT for a panel of her recent comic -- she prompted it and copied the results -- and I still don't know what to do with that. It genuinely feels in moments like this like so many of our art elders are failing us.
Catching up with what James Gurney, the Dinotopia artist, is up to these days. Pathetic.
