Things I learned last night: Hugo awards are HEAVY. I was honored to be one of the ushers at last night's Hugo awards, and my arms are definitely sore today. Still, it was worth it, to get to be a part of honoring so many people I admire!

Super late to the party, but: the tv show adaptation of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is GOOD. It kept my favorite parts of the book, but also made cuts that were good for characterization and pacing. A+ would watch again!

Also: If you don't have money to buy my (or anyone's) books, and you live in the anglosphere, before you pirate them, try to get them from your local library instead. They have it or can get it, they pay for the books, and in many places writers get paid for their books being lent. Everyone wins!

This was me with @kjcharleswriter.com . Not only did finding her extensive catalogue introduce me to new favorites, but recommendations from other fans of hers added a TON of books to my to-read list.
Have you ever discovered an author that isn’t new to the world, but is new to you, and it feels as if you’re world has expanded somehow? Now you have so many more books to read by this particular writer... Who is that author for you?

I genuinely LOVE when I see a twist coming in a book. It makes the payoff all the more satisfying when it comes!
If your audience saw your "twist" coming or guess what's gonna happen, there's a 95% chance that's a good thing. It means you foreshadowed and your characters are consistent enough to predict. Good job! +1 Writer Point for you!

Since a lot of air time is being given to the shitty wizard books, I want to give attention to @freyamarske.bsky.social's fantastic The Last Binding series. It's unabashedly queer and horny, but to the above point: her magic system OWNS. The rules for magic, the execution of it, fun as hell.
