It's so hideous that "begging an EMT to not saddle you with a life ruining bill at the cost of your health" is such a commonplace occurance
the US is unbelievably fucked. a friend casually mentioned that last month she got T-boned by a guy running a red light and in her concussed state she was arguing with the EMTs to not take her to the hospital because she couldn't afford to pay. absurd that car dependence is a mandatory life gamble.

I know people think I’m too woo-woo about theory and capitalism and markets. But I sincerely believe this kind of degradation of micro-trust is the real social and economic rot. We constantly feel scammed and then we start reacting like marks instead of mutually reliant humans.
