Such is the power of @zackpolanski.bsky.social that he's prompted the Daily Express(!) to write a totally respectful article about the meaning of the white poppy

Meaning of a white poppy and white poppy symbolism as Zack Polanski wears one
Green party leader Zack Polanski was seen sporting a white poppy alongside a red one for Remembrance Sunday today - but what does a white poppy mean?

not teaching people to question authority at a young age makes it all the harder to realize the myriad ways in which you are your own authority and need to question yourself. america—esp white middle/upper class—is simultaneously riddled with anxiety, inferiority, naiveté, and ego.

This might have been true 20 years ago. Unfortunately it is no longer the case. As the people whose actual memories of war have died, we've replaced sombre remembrance with fascist purity tests and crass celebrations of violence.
One of the most precious things about Remembrance is that it sets no political tests.

It asks only that we "remember", and that we do so in the silence of our own thoughts.

It doesn't dictate what we remember, how we remember or what lessons we draw.

That's between ourselves and our conscience.🧵

This is the one thing we choose to take inspiration from Denmark on? But of course
Denmark steals possessions of people seeking asylum, as policy. It returns people to situations where they are killed.
Mahmood is copying some of the worst policies going.
Labour once again showing it's just another anti-asylum, anti-human rights, government. #r4today

Not only does the UK government waste vast sums of money on demonising those seeking asylum, now it appears that they are complicit in quite a number needing it in the first place. Choosing to save money over a genocide, again. #r4today

Awoke to read that the UK chose ‘the least ambitious’ of 4 ‘atrocity prevention plans’ for Sudan b/c money, then that Badenoch is reinstating the Tory cash-for-access ‘advisory board’, then that Tesla shareholders approved $1TRILLION pay for Musk & chanted his name… wanna die before it’s even 7:30am

In case you’re wondering - no, that teensy-weensy global pandemic thing isn’t mentioned, the institutional forgetting continues. I would argue this is deliberate and tactical.

The function of this piece is ultimately eugenicist and I don’t say that likely. This is the case for the modern workhouse

A great day for the golden rule of political analysis: when the right wins it is a resounding ideological victory that humiliates the left and when the left wins it is a precarious fluke that will surely end up humiliating the left. Conservatives are power’s landlords and the left merely tenants

In Finland they’ve been taught how to spot fake news as part of a critical thinking curriculum since 2014 including how to spot a doctored photo, check for inconsistencies as well as countering misinformation that sows division. We are more than 10 years behind on this.
School pupils are to be taught how to tackle conspiracy theories, spot 'fake news' & root out misinformation. The Daily Mail, ajudged by Wikipedia to be an unreliable new source, is furious. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out why.
