I wrote a blog post about this because when my husband was sick (cancer for 6 years before his passing) I often didn’t know what I needed or didn’t have the emotional energy to tell someone what they could do for me. I loved concrete offers.
Here are some lovely alternative questions to ask when offering help that go way beyond “Let me know what you need”…

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

When the government moves to punish those who say things that are offensive to the feelings of the government, that is a crystal clear violation of First Amendment protections. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is asking you to give up your own First Amendment protections.
