Private cities are why they want Greenland.

These will be the places fascists run to when they lose power. If you haven’t heard of the company Praxis or the other venture capital firms owned by people like Thiel & Altman, look into them! They want corporate dystopias like Night City to be reality.

Instead of stationing police outside of women's restrooms like they're doing now in Texas to check i.d.s, because God forbid anyone has to use the restroom, maybe we should be focusing on the people women rally have to worry about: straight, cisgender men.

Even in the middle of this absolute horror film we’re living through, there are real Democratic wins breaking through. Had a great conversation with Mary Trump about why those wins matter and why we do not stop pushing forward.

The Constitution's "wall of separation" between Church & State was a phrase coined in 1802 by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury, Connecticut Baptist Convention presenting his views on the relationship between religion and the role of the state in the new nation. #ChristianNationalism

Worth noting that Nigeria makes a point in its statement to debunk Trump’s comments that this violence is specifically directed at Christians, acknowledging that it impacts everyone.

I could go on and on, but if you're a scholar interested in any aspect of the civil rights struggle in the 1960s, I'm begging you to check out the Doar Papers and see what they have to offer on your topic, or to see what new topics they might inspire you to explore.

On that note, while I get into the clashes between local law enforcement and the feds in places like Ole Miss and Neshoba, but there is another book -- several, actually -- to be written about segregationist sheriffs and civil rights activists all across the region as documented by the CRD

I cover voting rights cases and murder trials of activists in MS and AL, I didn't cover the same things in states like Georgia.

The Doar Papers have *amazing* details on "Terrible Terrell County" and Sheriff Zeke Matthews, for instance, and the murder of Lemuel Penn and the investigation of it too

There is, for instance, a massively important book to be written on the largely overlooked stories of the civil rights struggle in Louisiana, where segregationist leaders like Leander Perez held sway and where the CRD worked hard to root out the Klan from places like Bogalusa.

As a result, my study largely unfolds with major events in Mississippi and Alabama at the center. But of course there's so so much more here.

And I really hope that other scholars explore those issues.

(Indeed, my conscience is begging you to do the work I had to leave behind. Please.)

But I was also trying to make a case for the importance of the CRD in the civil rights era, and decided the best way to do that was to control the variables of time and place, limiting my study to the well-worn geography and chronology of the 1960s Deep South in order to explore the new variable.

For one, there were so many great new details in these papers that refined and revised that familiar narrative -- a plot by Mississippi lawmen to assassinate James Meredith before he integrated Ole Miss, for instance, and the CRD's deep involvement in the logistical planning of Selma-to-Mongtomery.

As excited as I am about this book, it's only going to scratch the surface.

For a couple reasons, I largely confined my narrative to a series of familiar milestones that have been well covered in the literature on the civil rights movement.

Well, after eight years of research, writing and revision, I just sent the full manuscript for THE DIVISION: JOHN DOAR, THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT to my publisher.

This is happening, people. Whether you want it or not.
