The mental acrobatics of a 30 year mortgage making any kind of sense is difficult. It is, basically, a scam. Even twenty years ago, you were figuring out how to pay it off in 20 or less to keep the entire affair from being unaffordable beside also trying to save for retirement.

50 year mortgage?

The massive wealth sequestration responsible for the global economic apocalypse in my Sci-fi series was meant to be a warning.

50 year mortgages?
100 year, non-transferable, zero-coupon bonds?

Miran, Bessent, and Trump have largely failed to push this agenda. I pray they continue to fail.

This Veterans Day, I’m thinking of the millions of Americans who have served in uniform — and how our government is failing them right now.

Words aren’t enough, we need actions. Fund the VA. Fund mental healthcare. And end endless wars.

Never before have I witness the whole spectrum of liberalism, from centrist democrats to the farthest leftists, so completely united against a common enemy. Too bad it's the Senate Democrats.

You will smile, and you will be jolly, or face disciplinary action, with a note about your conduct added to your next performance review.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Speaker Johnson is officially keeping the House in recess again next week. This will be the eighth consecutive week the House has been out of session. The chamber hasn't met since Sept. 19. Adelita Grijalva, who was elected on Sept. 23, has not been sworn in.

Arguing against extending ACA funds, GOP senators are circulating charts showing insurer profits rising since the enhanced subsidy began.

Bernie @sanders.senate.gov appears fascinated to learn that they consider this a problem, saying they should then cosponsor his Medicare For All bill.

An AI model informed only by the tenants of Jesus Christ would be pretty entertaining for a second or two.

All the performative "Christians" in the world would be scrambling over each other to shut it off.

Cognitive dissonance bubble go pop.

When I wrote the 8th book in my Sci-fi series, I touched on the crossover between zealous Christianity and artificial intelligence. I went to what was a batshit place to write what that might look like, both as a caution to others, and also to frame what technocracy cult behavior would look like. 😐
Quoted here about the increasing intersection of right-wing Christianity & Tech. Had a very much longer conversation than there was space for, touching on mutations of Christian-inflected belief & eschatology in re: the Singularity hype & pushes toward, e.g., "consciousness uploading" & now "AGI"…

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you have friends struggling through the shutdown, consider inviting them over for a family dinner this week. Make too much. Insist they take leftovers home. Some folks can't say they need help out loud but will appreciate the kindness.
