vulgar marxism is really appealing because it instantly explains why people do bad things in terms of good and evil and it's extremely misleading for the same reasons - marxism is about systems, not individuals!
There's a tendency among a certain type of poster to assume everything they hate about politics and the state can be blamed on avarice, and I'm here to tell you it's actually worse than that.
I continue to disagree with this. The goal of mass detention is mass deportations. A private prison company leasing 100 beds to ICE gets paid the same if the beds are filled by 100 people for a year each or 1,000 people for a few days each. They don't earn more with long-term detention.

Last week, 65,000+ residents voted to elect a democratic socialist mayor. All Council races that had a DSA-endorsed candidate won by overwhelming margin. These results send a clear message: people want leaders who will fight for working-class communities, not corporate interests.

TCDSA made a huge level up this year. This organization can be messy, but is becoming something powerful. If you're on the fence of jumping in, with Trump in the Whitehouse and Frey in city hall, we need organized working class solidarity now more than ever.
When Twin Cities DSA members voted to endorse @OmarFatehMN.com for mayor, we knew the task before us would be hard. Landlords, Wall Street developers & corporations like Lyft poured millions of dollars into this election to spread racist, Islamophobic lies to protect their profits.

@ericroper.bsky.social brushing over the role media played in propping up Frey. Where was the media condemnation of the deeply racist snake oil attack ads on Robin or the AOM flyers that darkened Fateh's skin? Why did no one care about Frey deleting his texts and voicemails when ICE was in town?
Some thoughts on Eric Roper’s finger-wag in the mayor’s race: www.startribune.com/jacob-frey-r...
1. Asking “what chance did [Davis & Hampton] have ignores Frey’s agency is creating the race‘s dynamics. Frey sued the most moderate hope (Emily Koski) to cut off her money & intimated others. 1/
Roper: Jacob Frey can thank the far left for handing him another term
Frey was a vulnerable incumbent. But progressives banked on the wrong guy to beat him.

One of the standout stories of this election was the amazing reporting by @taylordahlin.com. Everyone should check out Taylor's blog at taylordahlin.com. If someone has a link to a patreon or something I'd like to chip in a few bucks now that campaign season is over.

Agree with everything Ryan wrote in this thread. During GOTV, Fateh knocked 80k doors and our IE table knocked 20k doors. Top notch field and political staff, unprecedented partnerships with Council and Park campaigns and a motivated volunteer base driven by DSA pushed Frey and his $$ to the brink.
We’ll never get a re-do on that election, but I do think it was within our grasp. Unless I'm forgetting someone, Omar put together the largest coalition, raised the most money, had the strongest campaign of any city-level progressive candidate I've seen in my 18 years here. It wasn't handed to him.

Day-old take on both Mpls & StP mayoral elections is that due to neither race having a formal DFL endorsement (for admittedly vastly different reasons) it allowed many folks to start making too-clever calculations about who to support & how, rather than simply getting on program with a plan to win.

Jason's team crushed it this year, and I don't think any council candidate in the city knocked as many doors as @jchavezmpls.bsky.social. Absolute legend.
One of the things I’m proudest of in this campaign is the fact that a TON of the increased turnout this year came from Ward 9.

Compared with 2021, we increased raw turnout by over 20%, from 6,983 in 2021 to *8,417* this year, a difference of 1,434 votes.
What I love most about Jason Chavez’ campaign is how they worked—and succeeded!—at increasing turnout.

They also spent resources on not just election literature, but on ensuring residents are armed w/info to protect ourselves and our neighbors in this terrifying era. One example of campaign lit:

The biggest through line I see in the results so far is that @twincitiesdsa.org crushed this campaign with our four council candidates. So, what are you waiting for? act.dsausa.org/s/2670.WNjUMj
