Mayor Frey resisted our $1 million rental assistance funding to the very end. Now he’s claiming credit.

But we’re not fooled. “Pause Evictions, Save Lives” is up next to give residents more time to connect with rental assistance before facing eviction. Tell your Council Member to vote "yes"!

Happy Black History Month! I was honored to participate in the annual Council Black History Month Breakfast and Honorary Resolution Celebration along with many of my colleagues, and to uplift some of the incredible Black leaders who help shape Ward 2 and the city.

The numbers do speak for themselves. In fact, our neighbors know this because they feel it on the ground. They expect us to do more.

How about you stop telling us behind closed doors that we shouldn’t fund immigrant legal assistance, rental assistance, or support for our small businesses!
Big numbers. Big impact. The numbers speak for themselves when it comes to the effects of Operation Metro Surge. What can you do? Support businesses. Donate. Volunteer for a grocery run. As Assistant Chief Gaiters said today, we're Minneapolis Strong.

Trump’s administration announced they will be drawing down and soon ending Operation Metro Surge. To be clear, this win was made possible because WE showed up—Minnesota residents organized, protested, and refused to be silent in the face of terror in our communities.

There has been no draw down today. ICE snatched someone off Central Ave out of his car because he looked Latino before then letting him go a couple hours later. They were stopping people in Blaine on highway 65, they were all around Fridley, and were in the parking lot of the St Anthony liquor store

Council Member Robin Wonsley, who represents Ward 2 and is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America, told Truthout: “Residents also need immediate protection from ICE, which is why the City Council is calling on Gov. Walz to implement an eviction moratorium now."

As ICE Terror Forces People Inside, Calls Grow for Eviction Moratorium in MN
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz upheld an eviction moratorium during the pandemic. Why won’t he issue one now?

I am still asking the community to remain cautious and vigilant until we can confirm what this truly means. They said they are not backing down from mass deportation but will be ending the operation in Minnesota soon. 5/

“Eviction filings in Minnesota have been higher than normal for several months, and housing advocates fear it will only get worse this spring due to the immigration crackdown in the state.”

“The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said it was not involved in Thursday’s arrests, nor in a similar incident at the building last week.”

Sheriffs were literally on scene pushing people out of the way to let these goons rush this kid outside. Just own your decision to collaborate.

“This is not something that we will GoFundMe our way out of,” said Minneapolis Council member Robin Wonsley.

The outpouring of support to help our neighbors pay their rent and put food on the table these last ten weeks has been awe-inspiring. But we shouldn't be forced to do this alone.
Minnesotans’ moonshot to cover rent for their immigrant neighbors - MinnPost
The need for emergency assistance for rent is bigger than a GoFundMe, but that’s not stopping residents from trying.

Governor Walz finally speaks! Unfortunately, he gave us nothing.

The governor says that to enact an eviction moratorium, he needs to declare a peacetime emergency. Okay? So do it.

Grateful for leaders like @elliottpayne.org who is doing the work in City Hall while also protecting neighbors on the front lines.

He obviously has significantly less power than Walz, Klobuchar, and Smith, but he’s done more to keep people safe than those three combined.
"I think that the goal of Tom Homan switching out for Gregory Bovino is purely optics and damage control. It's not actually a change in their tactics of intimidation and indiscriminate apprehension,” said Minneapolis City Council President Elliott Payne.

Great to have the West St. Paul City Council join Minneapolis, St. Paul and Roseville in calling for an eviction moratorium so no family is forced to choose between making rent and risking being kidnapped by ICE.

Governor Walz is choosing not to stop evictions for our neighbors in hiding from ICE.

We aren’t resting until ICE is out of MN. We aren’t stopping until ICE is completely abolished. They want us to bend the knee so they can continue separating families, but we won’t be doing that. We’re going to win, and it’s bc of the resiliency of our neighbors.
