Finally, a bit of a reality check from our 2024 election book (out soon!) for everyone hyperventilating about collapsing public trust in the BBC - free to air TV (mostly the BBC) is still the most widely consumed and widely trusted source of news - blows print, online & social media out of the water

If you're a National Trust member, it's that time of year again: Midnight tonight is the deadline. It's a shame people have to keep doing this to keep a toehold on historical truth in this country, but here we are. Voting link: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/a...

As a heritage professional I can honestly say this is 100% not how you demolish or renovate a historical building or any building. This is how you would approach an abandoned building that's already structurally unsound. The administration is 100% 'trolling' the US using the worse approach.

Farage wanting to kick people out of the country because they migrated here made me angry and made me think about which best of British people and things wouldn't have happened were it not for the brilliance of immigration to the UK.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

Can anyone in my network offer a week of history-related work experience for a very enthusiastic 15yo in the Surrey/London area? Has to be the week 30 June-4 July. Research, archive, museum, archaeology, heritage, conservation, comms, ... Needs to be in an organisation with at least 5 employees.

Regular reminder that there is no reason Labour has to “eye billions of pounds in welfare and other cuts”. It’s more than possible to raise cash with targeted wealth taxes. Austerity is a choice and it’s a choice no matter what colour party is in power.

We have a properly warped perception of how much various sectors contribute to the UK economy. The fishing industry, which is constantly in the news and to whom politicians of all rosettes regularly play, adds less to GDP than Games Workshop
From the FT the other day. I had no idea.

I’ve just handed in the last output of my postdoc, which ended officially on the 29th. The last piece I wrote was on using Twine and IF in archaeological education. I’m now available for consulting, writing, and general digital (and analog) archaeological ethics needs. 🏺

This includes us - an MA educated field archaeologist and a PhD educated digital archaeologist. 🏺 Tonight is a night of hard panic in our home. We were fine at the 18.6 threshold. We exceeded it no problem. But there is no way to hit 37.5 on a field arch salary.
The minimum income rule is going up to £37,500 for British citizens to live with their spouses and partners. This is twice the national minimum wage. A lot of people simply cannot afford it.
