Rain garden can go a long way to preventing the worst of the kind of flash flooding—from rain right there, not coming downstream—that just hit NYC.

They're a cheap and often beautiful way to prevent enormous damages.
Research shows rain gardens are remarkably effective at capturing runoff.

When San Francisco installed 30 new rain gardens along a 12-block strip in the city’s Outer Sunset neighborhood, the corridor reduced the amount of stormwater entering the sewer by 95 percent for the area.
Heavier storms are here. Rain gardens can help.
At the most basic level, they function like sponges.

I love that former NYT public editor @sulliview.bsky.social is public-editing from the outside.

In response to violence in DC and Boulder, American Jewish leaders are doubling down on conflating Zionism with Jewish identity—even as they insist that it's wrong to target Jews for Israel's actions. This response won't protect Jews, writes publisher Daniel May:

If I had said this last year, that Trump would try and deport US citizens in his first year, all Republicans and a nontrivial number of liberals and centrists would have attacked me for behind hyperbolic, and fear-mongering, and of having Trump Derangement Syndrome.

And yet:
Trump calls for deporting US citizens: "We also have a lot of bad people that have been here for a long time ... many of them were born in our country. I think we ought to get them the hell out of here too, if you want to know the truth. So maybe that'll be the next job."

It should go without saying but historically people who propose denaturalization are not, as my grandfather would say, good for the Jews
This is a shockingly racist call by a House Republican for Zohran Mamdani to be denaturalized and deported. But instead of being viewed as unserious, it's now being promoted and circulated by LibsOfTikTok, Benny Johnson and MAGA regulars.

Democrats need to understand that Republicans are serious.

I originally invited him (as part of the organizing team) hoping he would speak. I wanted more people to hear him, hoping more people would support him.

We decided not to have politicians speak, but Zohran came anyway.
