Thread on AMERICAN concentration camps. Right now.

American commanders liberating Nazi concentration camps in WW2 noted that *German citizens had elected the people responsible for the camps and thereby were responsible themselves for the atrocities committed therein in their names.*
‘One officer told me that I "had no chance of returning to Minnesota" and that "the best thing for (me] is self-deportation." …
She offered me $2600 to self-deport.
I refused.
I wanted to talk to my attorney.
They didn't tell me the judge had already ordered my release and return to Minnesota.’

#TranspoBingo is finally here! I'll be trying to 🧵 my adventures here, starting with today's chilly commute! I biked from NE to SW, taking it slow and taking the lane where I could after K St since the PBLs are in a melt freeze cycle rn. If you bike this week, take the lane + take care!

The car free life is sweet! Got rid of it in 2024 and never looked back! We live 3 blocks away from the metro and have the amazing MBT, so we bike and transit everywhere!
36% of DC households don't have a car—the highest rate of any major county outside NYC

Those car-free households are concentrated near metro stops, especially between Dupont, Foggy Bottom, & McPherson. Green line stops like Columbia Heights, Navy Yard, & Anacostia also stand out

It's timeeeee!! One of the most wonderful weeks of the year is here! Whether you've never played, you live in DC or somewhere else, or you've played before, #TranspoBingo is for everyone! Can't wait to get into shenanigans this week 🤓
🎉 It’s officially time for #TranspoBINGO 2026! Let's play our way through the city! 🎉
We’re playing from Feb 5–12, rewarding non-car travel—buses, Metro, biking, walking, and rolling. Take different kinds of trips, explore our city (and region!), and support public and active transportation.

#MBTpubroll is joining forces with #TranspoBINGO tomorrow! Starting 5:30pm at Takoma Station Tavern for your 1st bingo square then biking down the MBT to Metrobar for your 2nd. If bike lanes are icy and unsafe, our alterative is to "roll" down via Metro train. Come one, come all, come pub roll 🚲🚇🍻
We’re red line 🔴 to green line 🟢 to Shaw Library 📚 for improv 🎭to a local business 🍸 to karaoke 🎶 to bus 🚌 as we share pre-release copies of the #TranspoBINGO 2026 board before it goes live. Thanks to our supporters/sponsors Washington Improv Theater and District Karaoke for hosting tonight!

I have tried to not bitch much about the snow situation in DC; it was an unusual storm. Yet, (a) we get snow storms here, (b) we knew it was coming, (c) it's been 10 days since it snowed. *Still* not knowing the answer to "who clears the bridges?" means we don't have a functioning executive.
We escalated Franklin yesterday. DDOT is now denying that it’s their responsibility, so folks can email/call the city administrator. dc.gov/agency/offic...

It won't be terribly cold tonight, especially compared to the last couple weeks, but it'll get just cold enough for this runoff from a water main break near Franklin Bridge to turn the Met Branch from the 8th Street ramp to City State into an ice sheet.

#bikeDC strongly consider an alternate route.

😍😍😍 It's almost #TranspoBINGO time. Get ready to play your way through the city, advocating for people-first transportation and meeting cool people along the way.
Since 2020, this game has encouraged non-car travel and people-first transportation and infrastructure.

Hey #BikeDC, as of 9pm there's a water main break or something on the MBT behind City State, basically converting the trail to a stream. Not passable. I called @dcwater.bsky.social to report it, but I had to tell them the trail is DDOT, not DPR. Who else do I loop in to get this elevated?
