Hello world! I'll be moving my ANC presence from Twitter/X to Bluesky.
I'm happy that 901 Monroe St NE (that ANC 5F voted to support) is finally moving forward. I'm disappointed by the concessions that were made and all the advocacy that had to happen, but getting 200+ units right across from the Brookland/CUA metro is to be celebrated. dc.urbanturf.com/articles/blo...
Zoning Commission Approves 230-Unit Development At Brookland Metro Station
A project at this location has been in the works for over a decade.

Power outage in Edgewood. According to their website, Pepco estimates restoration by 9pm. Report via their website so they have the most updated information.

Since a few folks have checked in with me, I figure it'd be good to put this in writing: I am not requesting a National Guard presence in Edgewood. The deployment of troops in DC against our will is based on false pretenses, and is a violation of our sovereignty.
DC pals: please contact your ANC commissioner and let them know we do NOT want the National Guard in our neighborhoods.

Any benefits they might see to cleanup help or whatever are dramatically outweighed by the normalization of the military in our city. (I can’t believe I’m writing that sentence)
Interesting: The director of D.C. government operations for the D.C. National Guard emailed the city's 300+ Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners today to ask for suggestions on projects where Guard can help on "neighborhood beautification efforts."

If anyone learns of more details about this crash, please send them my way.
Hearing there may have been a cyclist hit at 4th and Michigan this morning? Scene is weird, according to a friend, with just a bike, a delivery truck, and a police officer, which implies someone was transported.

Really sad to see Indigo get denied the zoning relief for their second restaurant.

5F02 has a spot open in the former Brookland Pint space. Come on over to this side of N Cap!
the BZA votes to DENY the 2324 North Capitol St NW zoning relief for "restaurant use ... RF-1 zone"

the vote is 3-0-2

the Zoning Order will be shared when it is posted

thanks for all of the neighbors & ABC5E commissioners who have participated

While this vote did not go the way I wanted, I remain committed to ensuring that restaurant wages are sustainable, livable, and fair. As we look to the budget and a need to find a solution without a repeal of I-82, I have invited representatives of our restaurants, the restaurant association...(1/3)
#BreakingNews - DC council votes 8-4 to temporarily pause $2 per hour wage increase in tipped worker law … to further assess impact … amid pledges that law itself won’t be repealed.

I tried to reply to your email but got a bounceback. Here's what I wrote:

I find this immensely disappointing and paternalistic. I, along with 75% of the voting electorate, twice voted for an elimination of the tipped minimum wage. (ctd)
I make decisions based on what I believe is right for the people most affected, even when it’s hard.

I know some may disagree, and I respect that. But I won’t trade conviction for votes.

I had a wonderful ride with @swiderski.bsky.social, @bryanhart.bsky.social and other members of the #bikedc community at tonight's #RideOfSilence. It sucks that we have to come together under these circumstances, but it warms my heart to have a community such as ours to pay respects alongside.

I love to see so many excited neighbors. It was a privilege to work within ANC 5F to get their alcohol license sorted out ASAP.
Good morning from the new Trader Joe's Trader Joe's opening in Edgewood today near Brookland metro station.

ANC5F, especially @aru.io , worked hard to get this grocery store open with licenses approved in record time.

The line started forming at 6:30 for the 9am opening!

The @transpobingo.bsky.social closing event was a blast. Many thanks to @erinpalmerdc.bsky.social, @handlebarsdc.bsky.social and the other organizers for such a wonderful week.

My final #TranspoBINGO updates! I helped advocate for public restrooms, stayed car free, and am committing to hauling more awkward things via bike instead of having them shipped. Two bingos!

Ticked off two more #transpobingo squares yesterday evening as I took an electric @bikeshare.bsky.social bike to and from a meetup downtown. I used the best trail in the city (the MBT) both ways.

This evening I joined ANC 5F's transportation committee meeting and helped draft several resolutions that will go up for a full commission vote later this month. I ticked another #TranspoBINGO square in the process!

It’s a “Novelty Ride” for #TranspoBINGO taking the 52/54 along a former streetcar route. So much nerding out! 🤓 And then snacks and drinks at local TKPK fave Motorkat. A lovely outing and a reminder that active transpo brings people together and builds community. Thanks, @aru5f02.bsky.social!

I ticked off two more #TranspoBINGO squares today! First exploring L'enfant Plaza, an area that I've only transited through. Second, a bus ride along the an old streetcar line, where we discussed the history of the streetcar and how these networks connect our communities to this day!
