Trump's illegal murders in the Caribbean just got worse. An internal DOJ memo on the bombings says the victims are waging war on the US, but per NYT, it extensively cites the WH's *own claims* to this effect as evidence!

It gets even darker than that. 1/

Trump Boat Bombings Take Dark, Unnerving Turn with Leaked Memo Stunner
A new Trump administration memo argues that those carrying out the boat attacks can’t be prosecuted. Why? Because the administration says so!

Congress’s shutdown deal eliminated key food safety rules, blocking agencies from enforcing measures to prevent contamination and trace outbreaks. This rollback has coincided with a surge in hospitalizations and deaths from foodborne illnesses.

All I have to say about the Nuzzi profile is that at the end of it she jokes about how she destroyed her life. In fact she did not do that. She has a book, a magazine job, this lovely profile. People’s lives are being destroyed by this administration, however, including by -well, you know.

Trump’s Deputy Attorney General and former personal lawyer went to meet with Epstein co-conspirator Maxwell in prison in July.

Then she was moved to a lower security prison.

Now she’s getting special treatment. Why?
Unlimited toilet paper and special privileges: Inside Ghislaine Maxwell’s life in prison | CNN Politics
Some of the rules that apply to Ghislaine Maxwell’s fellow inmates at Bryan simply do not appear to apply to the late-Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous right-hand woman.

Last I knew, St. Paul paid HOME Line about $25,000/yr. Meanwhile, St. Paul accounts for 14% of the hotline work, around 3k callers per year, behind only Minneapolis (25%). I promise it takes >$100k in resources to serve St. Paul. And yet DSI and council offices will just tell you to call HOME Line 🤷

NEW: We’ve uncovered the first known example of taxpayer money flowing from DHS to businesses controlled by Kristi Noem’s allies and friends.

It’s part of a money trail that’s been shrouded in secrecy—and involves $220 million, a mysterious Delaware LLC & a horse named Gill.

Kind of crazy that evidence is mounting that the world is run by a group of rapists, pedophiles, and men convinced of women’s inmate natural inferiority, and the pundit class is trying to convince us that the real social crisis is that men are victimized and lonely because women have too many jobs.
You just know that “Did Women Ruin the Workplace?” bit would have done NUMBERS in this little clique
Something absolutely perfect about Larry Summers riffing about the scourge of woke cancel culture being unfair to predatory men in a friendly email to his pal JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

Predictable but still amazing to watch people who spent literally years accusing every librarian, teacher, and trans person they could find of sexually grooming children suddenly throw themselves in with "actually it's ephebophilia"
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

We always look back at how overboard the NYT went on Hillary's emails, but I think it's also informative how underboard they went on Access Hollywood tape. The very first story led with his apology, as if that was more important than the existence of the tape itself.

In the most predictable development ever, Mike Johnson is not committing to hold a House vote on ACA subsidies

How do you make this your central demand for 40 days and then just let it go
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

If the Republicans won't give up ACA subsidies when they are being pressured and taking political hits, the theory for why they are *more* likely to concede with the pressure removed is .... ?
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."
