U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina's 6th Congressional District.
I’m devastated by the shooting that took place at South Carolina State University. I’m praying for the victims, their families, and the SCSU community.

Far too many among us have been touched by tragedies of gun violence.

A new bridge meant to boost trade between the US and Canada was paused after a Detroit billionaire, who owns the other local bridge, lobbied the Trump admin. to block its opening.

If you’re a billionaire, Trump fights for you—even if it means making it harder for Americans to get affordable goods.
Before Trump Blasted U.S.-Canada Bridge, Owner of Competing Span Lobbied Administration
A Detroit billionaire met with Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, hours before President Trump said he would block the opening of a new bridge connecting Detroit to Canada, officials said.

Newly revised government data show the U.S. economy added just 181,000 jobs in 2025, down from 1.46 million in 2024.

Trump promised “jobs, jobs, jobs,” but his chaotic policies are instead killing them.
U.S. added 130,000 jobs in January, but labor market growth stalled in 2025
The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that U.S. employers added 181,000 jobs last year, far fewer than the 1.46 million jobs that were added in 2024.

Trump: “We’ve gotten everything passed that we need for four years.”

Yes, that’s right. You are struggling to pay for housing, health care, and utilities.

But Trump thinks his tax cuts for the rich at the expense of everyday Americans is all he needed Congress to do.

Put aside the fact that non-citizens don’t vote in federal elections—the SAVE Act would require Americans to provide a passport, a REAL ID that explicitly indicates citizenship, a birth certificate, or military ID in order to register to vote.

52% of voters don’t have a valid passport. (1/2)

Pam Bondi is refusing to apologize to survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse after her Department of Justice failed to meet with them.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Trump’s DOJ is not seriously investigating Epstein’s crimes or prioritizing justice for the victims.
Jayapal asks Epstein survivors in hearing room to stand and raise hands if they still haven't been able to meet with Bondi's DOJ. Every single one of them doe. Jayapal then gives Bondi an opportunity to apologize. She responds by trying to attack Jayapal and Merrick Garland but doesn't apologize.

The Trump admin. wants you to believe ICE is only going after the “worst of the worst.”

Not true. Only 14% of nearly 400k arrested have violent criminal records. They should focus on real safety threats, not hardworking people just trying to get by.
Less than 14% of those arrested by ICE in Trump's 1st year back in office had violent criminal records, document shows
The official DHS statistics, which had not been previously reported, provide the most detailed look yet into who ICE has arrested during the Trump administration's crackdown.

These are letters submitted to ProPublica from children detained in an ICE facility in Texas.

Susej is 9 and has been detained for 50 days. Gaby is 14 and has been detained for 20 days.

Their accounts are heartbreaking. I encourage everyone to read them.

Trump's post of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama is flat out vile and racist.

This kind of bigotry—even if subsequently deleted—sets us back as a country, betrays our values, and only sows more rhetoric of hatred and ridicule.

61% of Americans believe the Trump administration is lying about what happened to Alex Pretti.

63% disapprove of ICE’s immigration enforcement.

I stand with the majority of Americans demanding a full investigation into Pretti’s death and real reforms to rein in ICE/CBP’s lawless conduct.

Employers fired 108,000 people in January, the highest for any January since the financial crisis in 2009.

Trump's policies are making the economy worse for Americans, not better.
Layoffs in January were the highest to start a year since 2009, Challenger says
With the recent narrative centering on a no-hire, no-fire labor market, the data suggests that the layoff part of the equation could be stepping up.

Trump used his National Prayer Breakfast address to continue spouting lies about the 2020 election being rigged and how losing it hurt his ego.

If your faith leader constantly preached personal grievances like Trump, you’d find a different one.

No message of faith, nor unity.
Trump at National Prayer Breakfast: "They rigged the second election. I had to win it. I needed it for my own ego. I would've had a bad ego for the rest of my life. Now I really have a big ego. Beating these lunatics was incredible ... The first time they said I didn't win the popular vote. I did"

Prayer should not be weaponized to advance partisan power or sow division—and President Trump so clearly lacks that basic understanding.

We should live our faith, not just recite it.
Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast: "I don't know how a person of faith can vote for a Democrat. I really don't. *crowd groans* I know we have some here today. I don't know why they're here, because they certainly don't give us their vote ... they cheat."

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Rosa Parks, born on this day in 1913.

Rosa sat so we could stand.

And now that we stand, we must keep fighting for the justice and equality she and so many others fought for.

Forty years ago today, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after launch. One of the seven on board was my dear friend, Ronald McNair.

As a child in Lake City, South Carolina, Ronald was barred from checking out science books at his segregated local library.

Trump’s FBI just raided an election office in Atlanta over 2020 election files.

ICE is ripping apart our communities, millions are losing health care, and tariffs are increasing costs.

And Trump is still focused on his 2020 stolen election lies.

No public official should face violence.

It is shameful President Trump has minimized the seriousness of this attack and continued his hateful rhetoric toward Rep. Ilhan Omar — we know that political violence is no isolated event.

Just 39% of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of immigration.

58% say ICE has gone too far.

Americans want immigration enforcement that prioritizes violent criminals, not indiscriminate militarized crackdowns that sweep up American citizens.

Bovino leaving Minneapolis is not enough. The American people want concrete reforms to ICE and CBP that put an end to their lawless conduct that is taking American lives and sowing chaos in our communities.

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I’m reminded of the 1946 poem written by Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemöller. He writes:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a socialist.

This couldn't be further from the truth.

Americans are seeing ICE and CBP terrorize cities and conduct themselves against the direction of local law enforcement and elected officials.

Alex Pretti’s death is a result of that blatant disregard by the Trump administration, and it must end.

The footage coming out of Minnesota is outrageous.

The violence unleashing in this country is a direct result of Trump and his reckless Administration. These masked, armed, and untrained agents are inflicting real pain on our communities. Their presence isn’t making Americans safer.

Enough.

A masked ICE agent grabbed a 5-year-old off the street in Minnesota and used him as bait.

Detaining children isn’t making Americans safer.

This is cruelty beyond the pale.
A viral image of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos shows the boy standing with a blank stare in a blue knit hat with white bunny ears.

Liam and his father were captured by ICE officers in Minnesota. School officials say that the child was used “as bait” by ICE.

It was outrageous enough when Trump pardoned the January 6 rioters a year ago. Now some of them are seeking and receiving refunds of the financial penalties they paid—some totaling millions of taxpayer dollars.
At least eight Jan. 6 defendants are pursuing refunds of the financial penalties paid as part of their sentences, according to a Post review of court records.

Others are filing civil lawsuits against the government seeking millions of dollars.

So far this term, Trump has pardoned criminals ordered to pay $298 million in fines and restitution. The total under his recent predecessors was a miniscule fraction of that.

Trump is fighting for his rich cronies—with taxpayers and victims potentially paying the price.
