Interesting to see so many great British patriots right now begging an American president to bankrupt one of Britain’s last remaining truly national institutions.

I am on strike today. It’s about pay and also about jobs. The pay arguments are more widely known - we still earn less than our counterparts in the previous generation due to well over a decade of stagnant pay. We want restoration to that previous level.

The Prime Minister must pick up the phone now to Donald Trump. We have 24 hours to stop Trump’s billion-dollar raid on British licence fee payers.

We’ve written to the PM, calling on him to demand that Trump drop his ludicrous $1 billion lawsuit against the BBC.

He won’t be the only one standing and surely the Labour Party membership wouldn’t vote for such a right wing candidate?
November 13, 2025 at 9:34 AM
Absolutely. Very few people buy newspapers now. Some newspaper websites do have huge readership, so might be worth look at those too. Alternatively the BBC should have the journalistic confidence to set its own agenda.
If we're talking about bias, why do BBC politics programmes, from Politics Live to the Laura Kuennsberg Show, still always begin with a look at the newspaper front pages, which are overwhelmingly biased in one direction. Helps frame the entire news agenda and debate in their favour

Trump is incredibly unpopular here! including amongst Tory voters. What are they doing?
Conservative Shadow Culture Secretary Nigel Huddleston tells GB News that the BBC should "grovel" to Trump.

Amazing how many British 'patriots' are spending their time telling our national broadcaster to prostrate itself before a hostile foreign leader

If Farage wins, I’m split on what happens to the BBC. Does he just straight up abolish or reform to an unrecognisable state.

Or does he find he quite likes the set up and reach, and forces it to slowly GB News itself.

Can you imagine the response if Starmer tried to sue a national broadcaster in the US? It wouldn’t happen and it’s about time Starmer stood up to Trump or he will keep coming back for more.

I had my disagreements with the BBC under Tim Davie but he was a decent man doing a difficult job.

To see Trump's White House claiming credit for his downfall and attacking the BBC should worry us all.

Glad that someone has finally taken responsibility for the appalling assault on democracy that was the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Slightly confused that it's the Director-General of the BBC, but what do I know?

I can't imagine a job i'd like to do less. Managing an organisation held to a ludicrous standard by roaring idiots on a daily basis, while the main mediums it uses are all in decline and it's starved of resources.

Frankly ridiculous self-flagellation by the BBC again. The speech didn’t need to be edited or abridged to show what it was. But for Director General and Director of News the resign is massively over the top and peddles the actual lie that Trump didn’t try to end US democracy in 2021.

sorry everyone I’m just having a lot of fun with the congestion charge debate because look I live outside the ring road in a village with not great bus service and I personally think the CC is one of the best things to happen to Oxford this year

Credit to the Greens over the last 5 years in terms of their campaigning organisation. They have much better literature and now actually target.

Moan all you want about bar charts, but they work. And a lot of them are going to be produced next May.
If Greens start consistently leading Labour in polls, and beating them in local elections then the logic of tactical voting which Labour has been relying on could flip savagely on them. As Caerphilly by-election shows, "Only Labour can beat Reform" doesn't work if voters know it isn't true.
Our latest Westminster voting intention (26-27 Oct) has Labour on their lowest figure ever recorded by YouGov, with the Greens on their highest

Reform UK: 27% (+1 from 19-20 Oct)
Labour: 17% (-3)
Conservatives: 17% (=)
Greens: 16% (+1)
Lib Dems: 15% (=)
SNP: 3% (-1)

I don’t think the far right party *only* getting 36% yesterday is good news. It’s bad news and shows Reform are probably on course for a lot more seats next time round.

By the way, the Conservatives won 17% in Caerphilly at the last Senedd election. Last night was also the story of their absolute wipe-out. They’ve always been comparatively weak in Wales since devolution, but to see them on 2% is brutal.

Disgusting policy proposed by a horrible and racist party. A party that is nothing like the one it was 10 years ago.

I think we need to be clear that proposing to deport 5% of the population of the UK is well outside any norm of British politics we are used to.

Tory deportation plan would upend Britain
Proposing such a radical bill with little public support is a gift to Nigel Farage

Absolutely maddening reading a thread on the Resident Doctors forum where F2 Doctors are sharing tips on applications to become baristas, warehouse workers and uber drivers.

Nothing wrong with the above jobs, but what a waste of 6 years of medical school and 2 years of Doctoring.

Would be nice to see the increased chunk of people voting for Lib Dems and Greens (29%) discussed as much as those voting Reform (27%).

The Tories will find being a 3rd party incredibly hard and unforgiving if they don’t have an enthusiastic and engaged membership to do the leg work.

How else will people know about them and to vote for them if they don’t have money to pay for publicity or people to talk to others?
October 7, 2025 at 8:34 AM
Watching the Kuenssberg interview this morning, I thought essentially this with Mordaunt on the panel.

Do not want the Tories to do well, but a centre-right/right party is going to exist and you’d rather have the Tories of the last decade than the current extreme lot.
It's fascinating how there are still replies on this, and indeed on every post about the decline of the Tories, with people on the left and centre-left people going 'good'. Honestly, I don't know how big of a warning sign you need that the death of the Tory party is bad for your politics!
Removing her will be an act of mercy at this point. It's getting unbearable to watch her flail around.

this is actually extraordinary and a lot of it's been done just by asking people to drive basically any car produced since 2007. almost no cars later than that (and some earlier) comply with ULEZ - it's not forcing everyone into a Tesla, it's incredibly basic improvements
For the first time ever, London has met legal limits for nitrogen dioxide.

When I became Mayor, we were told it would take 193 years. We did it 184 years earlier than expected.

Cleaner air means a healthier city and big savings for the NHS.
