Used to live up the hill from the cemetery where Garfield’s Tomb. Took the kids there one Sunday. My son, 6 or 7, kept searching for something as we moved around the space. Subsequent conversation revealed he thought we were were visiting the cat’s tomb and was thus searching for a cat-sized grave
also it’s extremely distracting that Michael Shannon is playing President Garfield (and doing a great job) but Nick Offermann looks like the cat Garfield
uuughhh I really want to like that death by lightning show but I don’t need to hear Nick Offermann as Chester Arthur saying “let’s get fuckin sloshed”

SNAP benefits are currently being held hostage by the Trump administration and their fate now lies with the Supreme Court.
Beneath the legal arguments are real people who simply need food—a former federal worker, a single mother of 4, a disabled man. I spoke to them. Here are their stories:

“Sure, the GOP didn’t actually release any hostages, but they’ve temporarily agreed not to shoot the hostage and we’re going to play Russian roulette with the hostage they kneecapped earlier to prove they don’t care about hostages.” - expert hostage negotiator, Sen Angus King
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

When I was in college I thought Lindsey Graham was a serious man who cared about America
I used to have atrocious judgement when it came to men. For example, I used to think Jake Tapper was a credible journalist

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

If Schumer votes AGAINST this but enough Ds vote FOR it that it passes, he needs to RESIGN immediately.
He will have shown himself to be absolutely ineffective as a minority leader. He has to go.
Literally resign tonight.

It is I, your PTSD-haver. Trauma is estrogen-mediated. I am sure HRT is amazing but talk to your mental health provider about how HRT may affect your PTSD before starting. I chose hot flashes because my panic attacks have almost disappeared and I am doing things that would have terrified past me

Yes, Tucker Carlson IS a Nazi promoter. He’s long trafficked in white supremacist narratives. For years.
But you didn’t care about that when he was mainly targeting blacks and Latinos.
Only now that he is attacking your group are you finally concerned.
Be better.

When I moved to Ohio in 2004, the government was giving big grants for renewables. Ohio had (and has) the manufacturing capacity. Then the Ohio legislature went Republican and they killed a nascent industry in the cradle. This could have been us.

I am called to once again post something a friend who survived Liberia’s civil war. Her stepfather was murdered right in front of her and she and her mother WALKED to Sierra Leone to escape: “ The only people who want to see it all burn down are the people who have never seen it all burn down.”

More than 30 minutes - your company is trash
as a thought exercise for everyone reading ross douthat's latest missive in the NYT, i want you to think about sending an email to your entire company with the subject line "Did Women Ruin the Workplace?", then think about the over/under on the number of minutes/hours you would still be employed

Republicans aren’t going to *do* anything about the antisemitism contaminating their party, but Frum is still acting like the words lying liars who have lied over and over again matter.
Is he a fucking rube, or does he think we all are?
