It will help to call or email your senators and representative with your thoughts about this!!
Speaking now from El Salvador, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) says he was denied access to Kilmar Abrego Garcia by El Salvador leaders. And was denied a phone call to him

I just overheard a colleague say to another colleague, after they shared a laugh about something, "you're hysterical sometimes." And I know that everything is terrible and we are facing the destruction of [gestures broadly], but I can't stop thinking about that "sometimes."

Agreed, and the more we amplify what Booker is doing, the more we make it matter, in public perception and as an example to other elected officials. On the other hand, the more we disparage and tear it down, the more we make it not matter. It's not all up to him.
I've come along to this take after kneekerk cynicism. Doing stuff that grabs attention is good. Not every action has to accomplish everything. You can praise and be happy about a step forward. We're going to need many steps forward.
yall we can’t collectively screech that “no one’s doing anything!” and then say “no not like that” when someone actually does something.

is Booker’s filibuster gonna save the world? of course not. but since courage begets courage it could lead to more. I’m fucking cynical as hell but come on.

"Hi Senator I am a voter in [your home zip code] and I saw what Sen. Booker did for others and I want that for me. Good day". A phone call like this is worth 10,000 quote posts.
Call your senators and tell them you saw it and like it, too. Maybe someone else will do this again.
To put in another way: this is Cory Booker turning a big dial that says "opposition" on it, and he's looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right. make sure he knows we're happier the more he turns it up.

It may be performative but that man is making arguments against Trump/Musk/Rs disastrous bullshit cuts while sometimes leaning so heavily on the podium he’s barely standing AND while too many Democrats are too comfortable sitting back doing goddamn nothing. AT THIS POINT, DO FUCKING SOMETHING, DEMS
It may be performative but it is MESSAGING. If democrats do this, they become the story and they get coverage. The more people stand up and Do Politics, the better chance we have of breaking through.
Cory Booker has taken the Senate floor and plans to filibuster as long as he’s physically able to protest the complete disregard for the rule of law by Trump and Musk.

I'm seeing a lot of cynical reactions to this move from Cory Booker. And I get it!! But performative opposition is a necessary part of effective opposition from the minority. Not sufficient, but necessary. And our electeds need to know we notice when they do well and not just when they do poorly.

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up.

Tomorrow is the cloture vote.

KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.
