I'm facilitating a causal inference reading group next semester for Sociology PhD students. (I will also be learning!) If there are (1) pedagogical articles or (2) empirical examples in soc that you ❤️, will you share in the comments? [And please RT to help me crowd-source!]

Take 2 positions of this government: Your American-ness is limited to birthplace, not the ideas of the nation + the attack on birthright citizenship, & you get a nakedly white supremacist government (to say nothing of the move to limit legal asylum to white South Africans).
Trump on Ilhan Omar: "I look at somebody who comes from Somalia...and she comes in and tells us how to run our country. 'The Constitution says this, the Constitution says that.' The whole thing is crazy."

A gunshot wound can change your life in seconds. For survivors, health care is nonnegotiable. We can’t talk about gun violence without talking about ensuring victims have access to affordable health care.

1 of several reasons why I am opposed to a crudely consequentialist approach to public policy, where the outcome (will it increase low income people's access to loans, empirically?) is all that matters.

Duffy has talked consistently like he's still a Fox News personality talking shit about Democrats, but has been unable to figure out the PR when you're in charge. See e.g. when Steve Doocy was like "you say DOT sucks right now, but isn't it your job not to suck?" www.yahoo.com/news/fox-new...

The political economy of punishment in action
"The notices state that “Payment in full is due now” & list an array of potential consequences for failure to pay, including collection litigation & negative impacts on their immigration cases. Fines that aren’t paid in full will accrue interest."

Last month, playing tape of Charlie Kirk's words was enough to get people fired for the new category of anti-Kirkist hate speech.

This month, playing tape of Ronald Reagan's words is enough to spark a presidential tantrum and diplomatic breakdown.

Sloppily written anti-trans policies, applied incorrectly*, harm everyone.

*The school policy is "only biological females can play girls sports"; doesn't say trans boys can't play boys sports. So they're not even following their hastily written policies, on top of the fact that the kid isn't trans.
His high school is saying that a boy, who was born a boy with boy parts, must play on the girl's team to ensure "fairness." He's not trans. A doctor submitted a note that he is "a biological male." The school makes him use a separate bathroom. www.fox13now.com/us-news/birt...

roberts’s constitution allows for racial discrimination as long as you don’t say you’re racially discriminating, because in a classic bit of racecraft, roberts’s constitution forbids acknowledging race but has no particular issue with racism.

There is no evidence that the man who murdered Kirk had any ties to any progressive nonprofits.
"Scott Bessent said that his department is launching a War on Terror-style campaign against progressive nonprofits."

The last No Kings protest was my wife's first ever protest of any kind--and she's the one who initiated going. Also, lol at "the hardest of cores", might have to steal that one.
If it's like the last No Kings rally, the one in my town is going to be full of moderate normies.
Bessent: "This crazy No Kings rally this weekend, which is gonna be the farthest left, the hardest core, the most unhinged in the Democratic Party, which is a big title. No Kings equals no paychecks."

Jon Stewart said something similar to Tucker Carlson on “Crossfire” like 20 years ago. Stewart critiqued the “entertainment” aspects of cable news, Carlson tried to turn it back on him, & Stewart responded, “Right, and my show is on COMEDY CENTRAL.”
Was waiting to see how Olivia Reingold (who Oliver's piece destroyed almost as much as Bari Weiss) would respond, and you can see the tweet below which also shows she either did not watch his piece, or just didn't understand it, since he actually addresses this point directly.

Workload report shows breakdown of time UNC faculty spend teaching, researching
It is not exactly clear what UNC plans to use the faculty workload report for, but some professors are confused about how the data was calculated.
