Fuck this is such a devastating point. It was bad enough when Dawkins et al were ummasked as the shitfilled misogynist Islamophobes they are, but the reaction to that has been so fucking depressing. People now act like atheism, in itself, is both cringe and right wing. And so fundamentalism rises.
When the New Atheists went full misogynist and Islamophobic, the sins of Western conservatism as a whole were laid at their feet while I saw leftists adopt positions about religion like "ah, but the noble third world savages are religious too! will you, a white person, tell them religion is bad?"

Philosophers really are the tech bros of the humanities. Once you decide your job is thinking about thinking, it becomes really easy to convince yourself you don't need to learn a single actual fact.
What it sounds like when philosophers who are also anti-trans activists submit an amicus brief to a US court where they argue for banning trans girls and women from women's sports.
