Caught myself dismissing the p4k 2025 year end lists with the "never heard of" argument, and then remembered back when they listed Illinoise as No.1 of that year and I was like "Who the HELL is Sufjan Stevens?!?" Lol
Year-end critics’ lists exist for people to fight over, so I’m happy when people complain about them. But the complaint I will never get is, “I’ve never heard of most of these movies/albums/shows.” Yes, and? Why be mad about learning about stuff you didn’t know before from the news?

it's crazy that you can be a writer for the new york times and not know who the current mayor of new york city is or the current budget of the NYPD, who despite a constant presence in the area failed to intercept a man walking around with a GIANT FUCKING LONG GUN
Monday’s mass shooting may put concerns over gun violence back on voters’ minds, and have already lead some to scrutinize Mr. Mamdani for his views on policing. “He clearly does not understand what public safety is all about,” said Cuomo w/ @emmagf.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/07/29/n...

The problem will continue to be that nothing will actually fix this except proposals from people to her left. They all think they can get by with just discourse

Busses can never be free and groceries can never be government issued but also there will always be hundreds of millions of dollars to make absolute sure neither happens.

I wrote about this extraordinary moment in which LA leaders still seem to believe they can produce a series of megaevents in cooperation with a federal government that has occupied their downtown and is openly abducting their constituents

Amid the ongoing political chaos it is important not to lose focus on what the root cause of all of this is: Some people have too much money.

Hot take: It’s actually good he’s keeping quiet, because he so clearly would not be any better at meeting this moment than any Democrat everyone is mad at.

Haven’t ever felt mounting horror in quite the way I did while reading this entire thread.
Hi, hello. In order to grasp the significance of Trump crowning himself a King, you have to understand that he is literally carrying out a plan crafted by Curtis Yarvin, a right wing extremist, to overthrow democracy and replace it with dictatorial rule by a monarch-CEO.

So far in 2025 I can't bring myself to hear any of the political podcasts I've listened to over the last 8-10 years, and I've gone harder than ever on Grateful Dead live shows lol
A small thing I've started doing that has had a tremendous positive effect on my mental health is listening to music instead of podcasts

btw Caruso has two other major gathering spaces in The Grove and the Americana and neither are being used for donation drives, community building, etc. They're literally just still acting as profit centers.
Caruso saw danger to his community and spent all of his money to protect his and only his property.

(Also he lost by 10 points; it wasn't close)
