Here's my 2025 Top 15 films. This list is in no way complete. I missed a lot. I'm still watching some but since I didn't see them in the calendar year, they're off this list. When I finish my voting for my critics' society, I'll catch up the best way I can. I went 15 instead of 10. Great year.
The orange properties in MONOPOLY are the winning properties. Don’t put all your stock in Boardwalk/Park Place. More often than not, people land on the orange ones. Load them up with hotels and they can be quietly devastating to your opponents.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

My wife got me a really nice coat for Christmas. But we live in Texas, which means that coat season is basically over mid-January.

Been mostly off social media reading CALVIN AND HOBBES all day. I treated myself to the Complete set and dove in.

It’s as funny, gorgeous, and full of heart as it’s always been. You can’t adapt this. When something is perfect, anything less than what it is seems a waste. You can’t improve on it.

Today would be a good day to smash my phone with a rock. Since that’s not realistic, best to be offline.

I mute a lot of my posts, especially the ones that take off. If I don’t respond (which to be fair, I really only respond to people I know), that’s why. It’s an anxiety thing.

Starting ALL IN THE FAMILY, from the very first episode. I saw it in the original run, but too young to remember a lot of it. And right off the bat, this is still the funniest goddamn show on television.

People who think Kurosawa is “homework cinema” need to be slapped around a bit.
so cool that when Kurosawa made Seven Samurai, he was like, "What if a movie absolutely ripped for three-and-a-half hours straight?"

I’m no fan of the man personally. But SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES is pretty terrific.
You know, if you're not a big fan of the VACATION movies or FLETCH (I'm not) Chevy Chase's filmography is pretty hellish. What else is worth defending? There's CADDYSHACK, sure, but he's part of an ensemble there. FOUL PLAY's all right. Beyond that?

At least we don’t live in a world of staggering class disparity in which a tech magnate attempts to quash left-wing sentiment using sexualized artificial intelligence!

First movie of the year - TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY Special Edition. Feels appropriate.

THE TERMINATOR theme is kinda an all-timer, isn’t it… it’s got this melancholy to it, but also feels like it’s huge in scope and a mix of old and new. It suggests a deep, epic story but it’s also mournful. Then it ends with a threatening sense of danger. One of the great musical themes.

Wrote 1000+ words on a story today. Hope it turns into a novel. I’m just free flowing, I’ll organize it once I’m done. It’s a horror story.

You know what YOUR New Years Resolution should be? Stop showing me Twitter/X shit. You’d make both our 2026 better.
January 1, 2026 at 4:18 PM
My New Year's resolution, arbitrary as it is, is to be online less. I'm having trouble concentrating, chasing little dopamine hits instead of committing to long term activities like writing and reading. I'm addicted to the distractions, and it has to stop. I'm too old for this constant outrage. (1)

1981’s ARTHUR - my last movie of 2025. Thanks, @jasondashbailey.com.
January 1, 2026 at 5:29 AM
IS THIS THING ON?: Not the movie I was expecting. Messy like life is messy, pieces don’t always fit but I appreciate that effort is made to keep that sloppy intimacy that feels genuine instead of something scripted. Will Arnett and Laura Dern make it work. Bradley Cooper is a good director.

“You spoiled little bastard. You’re a man who has everything, aren’t you, but that’s not enough! You feel unloved, Arthur, welcome to the world, everyone is unloved. Now stop feeling sorry for yourself, and incidentally, I love you.”
