Yesterday, when Bovino announced ICE would be returning to Little Village today, some of us donated and fundraised to buy out street vendors in the neighborhood. This morning, volunteers hit the streets at 6:30 am, looking for vendors to buy out. Tamales make an excellent breakfast.

I don’t have any way to get this message to Jeff Fisch, but if somebody could pass it along:

Visiting a genuinely advanced country really shows how far behind the US is in so many ways.
And while I used to turn my nose up at Singapore’s ultra-competent benign authoritarianism, compared to our wholly incompetent and malignant authoritarianism, it’s pretty nice.

Newsom is a bad person and I’ll leave that bubble empty before I vote for him, but if he spends all day on tv tomorrow calling Schumer a coward and it normalizes the call to primary him among lowish information democrats, godspeed.

The centrists in the party are Fascism enablers.
If it's real, then the fact that their impulse when winning is to give up for nothing explains so much about the democratic party

This is another way in which our situation is probably even worse than we realize. There are many people in Congress with (D) next to their names who don't necessarily share our values or our willingness to fight for those values.
We are not going to fix this problem quickly or easily.

Regular reminder that Axios stories saying Dems are about to cave are likely sourced from GOP staffers trying to make it happen.
Doesn't mean it definitely won't happen. But it's like those NYT stories that Harvard is considering caving (they haven't). The anonymous source was trying to manifest it.

The real choice, no matter how much Senators wish it weren't:
"Unfortunately, making things better for the American people coming out of this shutdown is probably not an option. Either Trump makes things worse with Democratic affirmation, or Trump makes things worse despite Democratic opposition."

Opinion | Democrats shouldn’t bail out Trump as the shutdown drags on
The best time for the opposition to take a stand, rather than settle for untrustworthy promises, is right now.

I wonder if such a party has ever really existed. There have been parties that fit that description *at some point* and then they turn into something else.
I think the Right is only compatible with democracy when it is mostly winning elections. Which means fundamentally that it is not compatible.

I repeatedly see polsci experts claim that a democracy requires a strong pro-democracy centre-right party and posts like these make me wonder wether such a party is, at least in the near term, even possible.

Read this thread. This is what @katmabu.bsky.social was protesting, and why she repeatedly says getting beaten up by ICE outside is nothing compared to the torture and crimes being committed inside Broadview. These thugs must be held to account.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Been saying this for months: they can’t lose power or they are all totally fucked. They’ve burned the boats.
That’s not meant to sound hopeless. They know the stakes. Everybody else needs to as well.

That clip of Bannon circulating rn where he admits he's going to prison if Dems ever regain power should actually be DEEPLY ALARMING bc it outlines stakes & desperation that will likely *escalate* regime lawlessness & violence. Taking action now could help prevent that.
Steve Bannon: If we lose the midterms and we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison, myself included.

The whole Walmart Thanksgiving thing is actually a cool moment to teach people about inflation. The 2024 version has both more and higher quality items than the 2025 version, it's not a fixed basket of goods! You need to adjust for the substitution effects to accurate compare prices!
