I'm a cynical misanthrope and a Star Trek fan. On the one hand, I love Trek. I love seeing humans trying to better themselves. But on the other hand, I reckon if humans really had powerful starships they would be oppressively Nazi-ing up the quadrant in no time.

This is true, in a ‘robustness of effects’ sense. But the problem here is the ‘physics’ part, which is focused on sensations and low level features that aren’t actually the building blocks of perception. You have to do psychophysics wrt *information* if you want more than a tiny error bar
