Ecological psychologist just trying to make psychology better at explaining us. I study the perceptual control of action and get cranky about politics and AI technologies. He/him
Every word of this is spot on. Once ‘everyone should be able to go to university’ was morphed into ‘everyone must go to university’ this was inevitable

Prof Shitij Kapur says there are too many graduates and degree is now just a ‘visa’ to enter professional world

Hey #visionsky #perceptionsky I'm designing a perception lab on visuo-motor adaptation using my inversion goggles (upside down goggles). I've got a few ideas for stimuli where students could track their progress at perceptual adaptation. Anyone else done this? It would be non-majors, btw

I love this comic but I can’t say I’m thrilled that it’s relevant again

It has been The Onion's best year since we broke Watergate and subsequently, personally had Richard Nixon removed from office.

I'm going to share some personal favorite stories in this thread.

I’m sorry but it makes no sense that tomorrow is 2026. Simply ridiculous number for a year I’m alive in

I like that we all agree that this was excellent and that under no circumstances should we allow anyone to fuck with it

The main lesson I’ve learned from S2 is that torture works, except on Jack Bauer
I have started rewatching 24 because I needed 9 long seasons of mindless tv and I had forgotten just how off the deep end it goes. Day 1 was interesting, but Day 2 Ep 1 *begins* with them torturing intel about a nuke in LA out of a guy and ends with Jack shooting a dude and hacking the body up 😳

Guys guys guys, I found the archive of the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures (it's not an achievement, they've not hidden them) - you can watch every single one since they started televising them in the 60s:

I love watching them every year, now I can see them all!

I’m working my way through the original Claremont-era New Mutants, and damn this run is good. Some really dark shit, some great character work, some incredible art (ahem Bill Sienkiewicz). Just as good as the X-Men, but entirely its own thing

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Ha, this is so stupid it kind of makes it blindingly obvious how desperate these weirdos are for us to love their stupid AI tech
Also, this just in -> the latest bizarre AI fever dream is AI-controlled trivets, staplers, and coffee cups on wheels. So we'll be chased around by inanimate wheeled objects clamoring for our attention.
