I’m getting a little tired of explaining this but if you want to connect some dots - woke is decency.

So when they claim to be ‘anti woke’ what they mean is anti decency. They WANT to be indecent without judgement. No shame. No decency. NO JUDGEMENT for being vile.

Anand Giridharadas' discussion of the Epstein emails as a record of the thought and conduct of white mail elites is the best writing on this subject I have seen in the last several weeks. Read it.

the economic success of the U.S. is significantly built on the land grant universities and in particular their excellent agricultural science tradition.
Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

The thing about the Harry Potter books is that their politics get significantly better as they go. The whole fifth book is about not trusting authority and resisting creeping fascism on your own.
My impression from friends who were extremely into Harry Potter fandom is that the whole community—including a number of bestselling novelists who cut their teeth writing fan and slash fics—hate her like poison

This is an incredible read about how one editor at a Toronto publication uncovered the fact that a prospective freelancer was a fraud who's been getting AI-generated articles published across the globe.

The kicker says a lot, too. Just give it a read. Amazing from @nickhunebrown.bsky.social.

I, for one, have only really thought about the VRA through the prism of federal elections, not local elections.

But this well-reported piece reminds us that ending the VRA will have an impact on ALL levels of representative government.
