Let’s be clear on this: Danielle Smith is ripping up the Charter of Rights & Freedoms to take away rights from the most vulnerable people in Alberta. And she’s doing it to protect herself from the militant wing of her own party, nothing more. Hope it’s all she’s ever remembered for in the long run

Read this thread. This is what @katmabu.bsky.social was protesting, and why she repeatedly says getting beaten up by ICE outside is nothing compared to the torture and crimes being committed inside Broadview. These thugs must be held to account.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

The many monarchs of Europe, the slaver's Confederacy, the Kaiser, the Nazis, the Italian fascists, Imperial Japan and many more all assumed that because liberals value peace and human life, that they were weak and feckless and easily beaten.

Go look for them now.
I think fundamentally the problem with post liberal thinkers is that they seem to assume that vanquishing liberalism results in their enemies being converted or defeated and not becoming radicalized into enemies who no longer extend the mercies they once did.

Edmonton's infill election is over, and Edmontonians overwhelmingly voted for a pro-infill council. The predicted backlash never came.

Now, it's time to build. And what better place to start than near our LRT stations.

Opinion: Voters backed infill housing: Now let's build it near transit

Misperceptions about the popularity of violence increase public support for it — but you can help change that.

A timely opinion piece. Edmonton's winters have been hell for the unhoused for several years now, and as temperatures drop all of that's about to come right back—frostbites, risky encampments in the woods, people piled into transit centres and buses for warmth, all of it.

Or, you know, the Carney government could just do the right thing and fix the system itself and toughen the process so it can't be politicized.

Honestly, we're a stone's throw away from listing ANTIFA as a terrorist entity if the US asks.

I'm sure it's fine.

The amount of shit I got for this segment at the time was astronomical, and it was all from people who now stalk CVS employees to get them fired for insufficient online sadness.

Cheering on political violence is both evil and not new, an outgrowth of an internet intentionally dismantled years ago.

Aftermarket vehicle exhaust systems are a noisy nuisance on some streets and intersections. Cities are trying new technology to pinpoint the problem and, in one city, ticket the offenders.

This kind of critique is fairly typical from people who see themselves as opposing Western power, but end up attacking anyone who investigates non-Western crimes. In their view, if your work aligns with Western interests, it must be compromised, regardless of method, transparency, or accuracy.

If market housing used to be much more affordable in the past, we can’t say the current lack of affordability is an inherent property of capitalism. It’s the specific market conditions of today.

The market will not serve everybody, but I think a functioning housing market can serve most people.
