much like fretting over AI’s potential godlike powers is a tacit endorsement of its marketing, AI companies want nothing more than for you to ponder the broad sociological impact of their technology rather than looking at it and saying “this shit sucks and doesn’t work at all and is fake”

By contrast, cutting higher education to the bone to 'save costs' strikes me as penny-wise and pound-foolish, sacrificing a lot of future productivity for meager savings today, mostly out of a block-headed anti-intellectualism rather than any real economy.

This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

I am afraid this take is just a result of the fact that a lot of people who aren't good at cooking try to do something technical exactly once a year. Turkey *is* good. You just have to do more than "put it in the oven and cross your fingers".

I had this exact conversation with my local university administration. There was nothing I could do to convince them of the second part. They were seriously convinced that gutting their diversity dept. without even being asked to was something that would win back public trust.
Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

I don’t want to hear about norms, I don’t want to hear about looking forward not back, I don’t want to hear about “bipartisanship”

I want the filibuster gone, the court packed, new states, and a top to bottom cleaning of the federal government that ends with a lot of people in jail

It has always been so obvious that the backlash to MeToo isn’t about whether the abuse is happening but whether people are allowed to want it to stop

Some sexual activities are more fun when you do a different kind of sexual activity just beforehand. (It’s not foreplay, it’s just different kinds of sex that change what our bodies do).

Compromise and Sex
Life is about compromises right? And so is sex? I don't agree. Here'a how to go beyond just compromise to find 'win wins' from sex instead.

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

The worst part is when you try to talk to other people about this and they look at you like you just said you want to catch a leprechaun because it's so horrible no one really wants to believe it.
every couple of days the official white house website says "we want to kill you. we want to destroy everything you love. we are the living incarnation of death and we shall sweep life from this earth like an unstoppable whirlwind" and its like oh. ok. do i still have to pay taxes

I think there's a small chance he might heroically "find" the funds at the last minute (similar to stopping the tiktok ban) and then demand a medal for "solving hunger".

But this seems more likely.

Tearing down the White House to build a gilded Versailles funded by bribes is fascism, actually
Its just a distraction

Genocide and fascism are better things to get upset about

“We will rebuild the White House as it was and pay for it by seizing assets from Trump, the Trump Organization, and his family.”
None of this is legal! People are choosing to break the law! Other people are choosing not to hold them accountable! What the fuck!!!

not even kidding, get your operating license and take the first whack at it yourself
The National Trust for Historic Preservation warned that President Trump’s planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom would “overwhelm the White House itself,” which spans just 55,000 square feet. https://wapo.st/4hmL8rC
